OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

found it more interesting the turnaround that they wanted to fight in June

Dana being cheap is the norm, no longer interesting haha

I don't think they want to turn Francis around like that, they just want Jones to take 10 million. They'll apply whatever bullshit they deem necessary to try to push him into taking their number.

They know what fight they should be making here. This is historic. Risking maybe the biggest fight in UFC history on Lewis getting lucky with one of those fucking missiles of his would be peak Dana stupidity.

Smart.

Dana needs to smarten up. One is starting to broadcast in north america and Bellator is a couple of big defections (Jon Jones, Cejudo, etc) away from stealing market share. Dana likes to act as if they've built some unstoppable juggernaut over at the UFC but it's really not that big of a league from a gross revenue standpoint. It can be overtaken still.

At some point I assume bellator will be One and they will go after a few big ufc names and it will be competitive in terms of headline talent.

will take a long while to get the depth the ufc roster has, but not impossible to do so

I'm not sure if I agree with this...90% of the fighters in the UFC are fighting on 20/20-30/30-40/40 type deals. The money to poach them is already there. It's the ability to match that 7 figure a fight money and the north american fame that they don't have, yet.

thinking more they will take less money (which they are already doing) for the chance for that big money and fame that is the ufc (being the premiere company).

edit: the good up and comers that think they have a real shot

DJ got put out yesterday in ONE FC, completely out. He was a -700 favourite.

It's crazy seeing killers like DJ and Conor getting completely put out.
Lower weight class fighters historically age poorly. If you watch that fight, DJ doesn't move the same way he used to. To this day, I think he won that second fiht against Henry Cejudo despite injuring his knee.

And also, ONE Championship is shady as fuck. That's supposed to be for their Flyweight champion with no weight-cutting. Yeah-fucking-right. DJ was fighting a guy who cut to 135lbs.

ONE Championships are the kings of over-exaggerated claims with nothing to back-up any of it.

"We've fixed weight cutting!" while offering no proof.

"We have a higher viewership than the UFC!" with no credible outlet being able to even remotely corroborate those claims.

That's kind of what I'm saying. One/Bellator doesn't have the ability to put you on ESPN yet, but One broadcasting on TNT, and Bellator on Showtime, we're starting to reach the popularity tipping point where the big dollar money will be there for the superstars.

Yeah, One is shady AF. I'm kind of hoping that Bellator ends up winning. They already pay damn near on par with UFC aside from the big name fighters, they didn't need to have their dicks dragged over broken glass to switch to the Trevor Wittman gloves (UFC won't pay to use the design, because heaven for fucking bid the tomato to give a proper shit about his fighters). I'm hoping that the Showtime deal is huge for Bellator.

I hope so too.

Bellator's been doing a really good job for a while now and they try a lot of different things that I wish the UFC would do. It also helps that they have some real world-class fighters. Douglas Lima has a real claim for being the best or second best welterweight in the world. Pitbull has a real claim for being the best featherweight alive (I think he's #3). Mousasi's a top-3/4 Middleweight. I think that overall, their Light Heavyweight division might be better than the UFC's.

If they UFC decided to do a legitimate, no bullshit Lightweight tournament to see who the next champion is, it would be the best tournament in MMA history. There's so much talent and so many good, possible match-ups, I'd kill to see it. But good ol' Dana doesn't like that. He likes it when shit is uniform and everything looks the same, that way they easily identify it as UFC.

The one thing I really miss about the Pride events was the pageantry, the feeling of This feels like a real event and not just a numbered show.

You can't watch the opener for this & compare to this to an opener the UFC does. It's different universes of good.

Doubt it. The only viable person to fight Yan for an interim belt is Sandhagen and he's fighting Dillashaw in a month.

If Sterling's coming back in October, then it's not so bad. The winner of Sandhagen/Dillashaw probably won't be ready to fight again for another 3-4-5 months, so it'll more or less come out to the same thing.

My brain thinks the Sandman will walk through the fight and be ready quicker for an interim match in July/august with the winning fighter for the belt in December
