There's a very realistic possibility that Harris ends up the better player over the next couple of years, but the Habs don't really lose anything in that worst case scenario with all the cap room. It's kind of unbelievable to have 2-3 possible 40 goal scorers on the team.

Harris is the 5th left D on the Habs.

Highly unlikely he is better than Laine but even if he is. Harris for a second is good.

Laine scored 6 goals last year, even if it was in 18 games any NHL-level defenceman would be more useful than that over a full year. But it’s obviously well-worth the risk, regardless of draft add-on.
