Pierre-Luc Dubois Thread

Bad contracts can be absolutely debilitating for a team. Just look at Darnell Nurse in Deadmonton.

Please, please, please stay the fuck away from Dubois.

although the combined pop seems to be about 800000 for Minn St Paul and Winnipeg is 8400000 but greater Minn is said to be 3.5 million

Ok, I’m not interested in going above 9% for PLD.
8 is my cap 😂

I am a believer in mojo though. Get some good French guys on the team then sprinkle in elite talent from wherever instead of chasing that elusive French superstar.

People look at PLD and they think it's going to be Drouin all over again but they're not the same player at all. And consider the source of the narrative about Dubois having a bad attitude. He didn't get along with Torts, which would only be relevant if he were the only player ever to complain about Torts or chafe under his tutelage. But half the players in the league don't get along with Torts and Torts is a garbage coach who hasn't won anything since the dead puck era. Now he's asked for a trade...out of Winnipeg, a city that probably 95% of NHL players would happily avoid also. And it's not like he refused to report. When he was traded Dubois went to the Peg and he's played well for the most part. He's just not interested in playing in a city that makes Columbus look like Manhattan by comparison. Is that what passes for a "bad attitude" these days?

He's a 6'2". 205lbs and is good for between 50 and 60 points a year at minimum. He's also pretty durable, averaging 72 games played per year over his career. If Drouin had done that we'd have all been happy. But Drouin, in 9 years playing in the NHL, has fewer goals and points than PLD has in 6. He's also 4 years younger than Drouin so most of his career is still ahead of him. If we take him at his word that he really wants to be a Hab, what's to stop him from being a very productive top 6 forward along with Nick, Cole, Kirby, and Slaf?

Acquiring Dubois has very little to do with the player himself. In a world where there's no cap? Go right ahead, I'd love to get him.

The problem with the player is this: He's a little overrated for what he is and he's a quitter. I don't hold it (too much) against players who want to be traded. There's a myriad of reasons why someone would like a new start somewhere else, but most of the time they stay professional and try their best without being too obvious when they go through the motions.

However, in the world we're in now where there is a cap and one bad contract can fuck up your team worse than any missed first round pick?

I wouldn't give him anything close to what he'd want, not for someone who's quit on two teams when he got fed up.

He never quit on the Jets, he simply let them know that he has no intention of re-upping with them so if they want to not lose him for nothing a year from now they should try to trade him. He's doing them a favor by giving them this heads-up rather than stringing them along and pulling the rug from under them at the last minute. Unlike Matthews, he isn't requiring Jets management to come and visit him to find out what his intentions are.

Yes but let's think about this for a minute...

Dubois has been disgruntled playing in podunk towns. It's very possible he's like Tavares and just feels he wants to play at home.

The way almost every player has responded with a bump in production under Marty, I think Dubois will experience the same. He's comfortable at all three forward positions which is valuable, he's got size and speed and can hit, I don't see why he won't be 70-80 points depending on line mates and usage.

At 8% of your cap? I think that's a valuable player.

My desire for Dubois is more that for once I want a top player to want to come to us. We can keep our own but other players don't.
