No chance in hell the cap jumps 15-18M in one year. It's not even guaranteed that it goes up next year (to 83.5M).

And yes, the Habs remain an interested party, I believe Montreal GM Kent Hughes in making his rounds and has already checked in with Winnipeg on Dubois. Having said that, I don’t think Montreal is interested in paying a fortune in a trade, especially when you consider the player as of now would be UFA in a year and any team could sign him then without giving up an asset.

But yes, the Canadiens will be among the teams staying on the Jets and Dubois. They’re not alone, though. There are a few teams looking at it.

The rub is that PLD is looking for 9m/yr

According to the piece, “ Mathew Barzal ($9.15 million a year), Roope Hintz ($8.45 million) and Tkachuk ($9.5 million) are three recent contracts Brisson and his team can use as comparables, because each of them signed that contract one year away from UFA status, with arbitration rights as impending restricted free agents, just like Dubois”

Brisson posturing and will prob have to come down

For clarification: The Athletic (Basu / Godin) are projecting PLDs looking for $9M, not based on what PLDs camp has stated publicly or privately:
