Pierre-Luc Dubois Thread

He has not, which is why I wouldn't pay 8M for him. He's worth around 7M, otherwise you're overpaying.
$7M in todays environment, but if the cap does rise as being projected in 2024 that’s equivalency now jumps to $8M-$9M…

It’s for that reason, if the HuGo are particular in acquiring PLD, it’s recommended they do it this summer - acquisition price point being acceptable of course

7M at 82M is 7.5M at 88M projected cap.

Caps expected to to increase upwards of 15% in 2024 (between $95M-$100M)
No chance in hell the cap jumps 15-18M in one year. It's not even guaranteed that it goes up next year (to 83.5M).

Most optimistic projections I saw were pointing to 88M for 2024-25.

I dont even think escrow payments get cleaned up this year

And more…
And yes, the Habs remain an interested party, I believe Montreal GM Kent Hughes in making his rounds and has already checked in with Winnipeg on Dubois. Having said that, I don’t think Montreal is interested in paying a fortune in a trade, especially when you consider the player as of now would be UFA in a year and any team could sign him then without giving up an asset.

But yes, the Canadiens will be among the teams staying on the Jets and Dubois. They’re not alone, though. There are a few teams looking at it.

So The Athletic is now reporting that PLD wants out ASAP and Jets will sign him to an 8 yr deal before trading his disgruntled ass to one of the 6 (or so) teams on his list. Habs will be on the list.

The rub is that PLD is looking for 9m/yr

IMO, that’s too much. We’ll see how it shakes out.

In the same piece, apparently Habs have zero interest in Carter Hart

I mean, how do they even negotiate that with any team? The numbers are simply not there. It’s delusional.

According to the piece, “ Mathew Barzal ($9.15 million a year), Roope Hintz ($8.45 million) and Tkachuk ($9.5 million) are three recent contracts Brisson and his team can use as comparables, because each of them signed that contract one year away from UFA status, with arbitration rights as impending restricted free agents, just like Dubois”

Brisson posturing and will prob have to come down

Anyway, Hughes bought himself some leverage with that Dach deal. He’s not chasing a centre and can test how much PLD really wants to play for the Habs

For clarification: The Athletic (Basu / Godin) are projecting PLDs looking for $9M, not based on what PLDs camp has stated publicly or privately:
Dubois is likely seeking a contract in the $9 million a year range, which is what we projected he would be in a position to ask for six weeks ago.

Re:Hart
Philly’s ask reportedly (Friedman) starts with 2 1st rounders +

It would be comical if PLD signed for 8 years with the Jets and then the Jets were unable to find a team willing to take on the contract.
