You've identified the biggest problem: not strong enough at center, even if 27 emerges. Right now we're a playoff team but not a Cup contender.

So a team with Crosby Malkin and Kessel will be a lottery team but the stripped down Bruins are somehow going to sneak in? Fulien won't even have a job by Christmas.
 
I think we'll finish second in the division...and anything goes after that.

I've seen more than one prediction of the Habs acquiring Eric Staal at the deadline. That would help matters.
 
3rd place in the division and one glorious 1st round triumph under their belts....

unless I am pleasantly surprised.
 
Yeah I think the Wings may sneak by the Habs for 2nd in the division. In any case a Detroit/Habs first round matchup seems highly likely.

I don't think either team's even going to make the playoffs, to be honest.
 
If they make it, it'll be no better than as a Wild Card. That team still has no defense to speak of. Looking at that division, they're not better than Washington or the NYR and I'd argue the NYI and Coloumbus are superior to them as well.

You could well be right, with parity. Of course I'm looking for possible surprises without going too far off the board. Defence is surely the big question in Pittsburgh, but I can't believe we have seen the last of that bunch yet as a true contender. I expect big things from Kessell.

I like how the Wings keep turning out new guys though perhaps no big star in waiting and they could be a sleeper as well. Your Tampa Bay pick may be the safest one from the East I agree, but rarely do teams return to the finals right away.Things have to go your way for two straight years.
