Rumors: 2024-25 Season

Draisaitl will be resigned by the Oilers.within the next week. They're already getting a ton of negative blowback for hiring Bowman. They let Draisaitl get away and things are going to get set on fire.

Yeah, I suspect he'll stay in Pittsburgh. That said, if he were to leave, this would be a great situation for him. Obviously, he grew up a Hab fan... and we're on the rise and he could definitely be the guy to put us into serious contender territory. It ain't happening though.

He’ll only ever play for Pittsburgh, of course. Just some fun nonsense.
Apparently anonymous teammates have been quoted as saying he hasn’t inked any of the offers (reportedly 2/3/4/5 year offers by Dubas on the table), because he wants to see if Pens are a playoff team this season

I think that, in all likelihood, Crosby will be a Pittsburgh Penguin until he retires.

If he goes elsewhere, his problem becomes: Which team that is legitimately contending can take his salary of $10M+? All of them have their core tied up to term & money already.

There aren't a ton of options available for him in that regard. However, we'd have no problem fitting him in money-wise. And if we need to make space, give San Jose a first round pick in return for taking Anderson's final two years.

Crosby would make this team a contender overnight. The defense would still be underwhelming and we don't have an actual #1 goalie, but at least the forward group would be more than good enough.

Maybe a team like Dallas that have Benn and Duchene expiring after this season?

If... and I think we all agree that it's a huge if, Crosby leaves Pittsburgh, it's to go somewhere he wants to go. I truly believe he's a lifer in Pittsburgh, but I would think Montreal is the only other place that he might have a soft spot for.
Crosby coming to Montreal would be pretty sweet, even if it's for 1-2 seasons at the end of his career. We're going to have a young and exciting team by then and he would instantly make us pretty dangerous. And we have the cap space for him.

This isn't Ray Bourque chasing a Cup in Colorado. Crosby has 3 rings. So I don't see him leaving Pittsburgh to chase a 4th with some random front running team. Bruins fans were cool with Bourque doing it because he'd never won a Cup, but Pens fans would feel like he was being mercenary. They'd be cool with him going to the Habs because they know it's not about money or chasing Cups, merely fulfilling a childhood dream.

This is essentially what Tavares did when he went to the Leafs. The only difference is that Leafs fans had expectations of winning Cups with Tavares. Crosby wouldn't have that pressure.
