Summer 2024/January 2025 Transfer Thread

USMNT keeper Matt Turner leaves Forest for Palace on loan. He began last season as the starter but didn't play after February. Palace lost backup keeper Sam Johnstone to Wolves earlier today.

While Kepa is loaned out by Chelsea to Bournemouth. Smart move by the Cherries

And with Kepa’s arrival, Bournemouth sent Neto to Arsenal on loan. He’ll be the primary backup with Ramsdale gone.

West Ham sent James Ward-Prowse to Forest on loan.

Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham heads to Sunderland on loan.

Glad he's moving to Salzburg. Probably wouldn't get much PT at Barca, and they would've wanted to buy, too. Here, he gets his necessary PT and is ready next season.

A couple of big loan moves could be brewing.

Raheem Sterling to Arsenal

Jadon Sancho to Chelsea, wiphich would include an obligation to buy.

And some smaller deals

Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea to Palace

Reiss Nelson from Arsenal to Ipswich

Ryan Fraser signed on a free with Southampton after Newcastle agreed to terminate his deal.

And Man U got the Ugarte deal over the line: €60M from PSG. While saying goodbye to Scott McTominay (off to Napoli).

The Osimhen deal to Chelsea isn't going to happen, and apparently the deal with Al-Ahli has been scuppered. So he goes back to Napoli even though they just signed Lukaku. 😳

Tottenham wanted €25-30m for Giovani Lo Celso Real Bettis offered €6m.

Instead we agreed to a deal to send them GLC on a permanent, and they agree to sell us Johnny Cardoso for €30m next summer, but we also have the option to nix it.

Basically an options trade, with us having the chance to get him for a fraction of his rumoured release clause (€80m) if he lives up to his potential this year.

Very innovative/imaginative deal from Johan Lange….

Any USMNT fans in here who can give me their detailed scouting report on Johnny?….think he has what it takes to be a 6 in the Prem?

Cardoso has IMO been wildly under-used by the US program thus far, mostly showing up in B roster situations and off the bench in a limited role. Not sure how he's progress as he matures as a player, but right now he's more of a defensive minded 8 who makes sharp decisions and can shift to a 6 role if needed/required than a pure solo 6. Kind of a Swiss Army Knife midfielder. Not sure he'll land on Bissouma's level, but he could do if his game continues to grow and he's got over 120 senior club appearances in top leagues at age 22. He's not going to be a bad little investment if nothing else.

Transfer clause for Johnny is event better than originally rumoured……£21m option to buy him outright next summer. We have a two week window to pull the trigger on it.

That’s some beautiful forward thinking from Lange…

Such an incredible deal for Naomi, and for the women's game. And Chelsea, who are already wrecking the WSL despite Emma Hayes' departure, add her to the mix. Naomi and Millie Bright will be virtually impassable.

Villa have accepted an offer for Duran from Al Nassr and he's going for a physical tomorrow. I didn't want to sell him for 35m this summer, but I'm kind of fine with this since it's so much money and because he's going to SA, I basically never have to think about him again. I'm much sadder about Buendia going on loan for the rest of the season after finally getting himself back into the squad. Or never giving Philogene an actual shot after convincing him to come back and then selling him and replacing him with Malen, who I would love to be wrong about, but I really just don't like that much. Good chance this finally leads to Emery getting Joao Felix who he's apparently coveted for some time.

Well, they also finally got Louie Barry to extend and then promptly loaned him out to Hull. I guess Villa just aren't going to have a striker on the sub bench at all once Duran departs. And Arsenal can eff all the way off with their late in the window stab at unsettling Watkins.

Seriously, given the financial requirements, clearing around 35 million on Duran is worth its weight in gold. As for Buendia, I don't see him playing his way back into form if he's only getting 10-15 minutes a game off the bench. Maybe he can find minutes with Leverkusen and get himself going again. I'm not sure where Jao Felix would even fit, but at least he's a quality player. Now, go find a CB who can play the left side ... like pronto.

I thought Buendia was our best player in his only recent start, though that's grading on a steep curve since the rest of the team was lifeless. He created a one on one with Watkins and the keeper that absolutely should have been buried in the back of the net and a couple other really good scoring opportunities that were squandered. A lot of people talking about how we need to improve our defense, and while we obviously need at least one more CB for depth, our defensive issues are a lot more to do with the fact that our attacking players have poor defensive work rates and we've now shipped off by far our highest two defensive work rate attackers (Philogene and Buendia) and brought in Malen who makes Bailey look like a resolute defender.
