Summer 2024/January 2025 Transfer Thread

And now we're apparently really in for Rashford and we still have yet to bring in a CB as it seems Chelsea have no desire to help a team they're directly competing with in the league and just strung us along. This window is testing my sobriety.

So, Rashford would be a loan with a relatively cheap option to purchase at the end of the season? I mean, Villa need another attacker and Rashford badly needs a fresh start. Plus, he does what Villa requires from a striker pretty well. I'm not mad about it. If it doesn't work out then there's a clean jumping off point.

And I've seen a couple of reports that Mings will be back pretty soon. So, maybe that explains the lack of movement on CBs? I dunno.

Yeah, loan is fine, I just don't like that our transfer strategy this window seems to be, are you overpaid and hated by your fan base? Sign us up!!!

Even if Mings comes back soon, we're still so light on CBs after selling Carlos. Swinkels is going on loan so that's our closest to ready youth CB and leaves us with just Konsa, Mings and Torres. Three CBs, two of which are pretty damn injury prone, isn't enough.

Just found out that our loan deal with RBL for Nedeljkovic includes and option to buy. What are we even doing??? I don't know why he hadn't been given a real shot this season considering he has looked good in his few appearances. Is it cause he doesn't speak Spanish???

Wait, isn’t he a goalie for the Pittsburgh Penguins?

Looks like Chelsea changed their minds and Desasi will be loaned to Villa after all. There's another defender, finally. Pure loan, no purchase agreement.

Likewise, Marco Asensio will be loaned in from PSG, where he was just treading water. Pretty much a Buendia replacement although I'm not sure I wouldn't have just kept Buendia around. Again, a straight loan with no purchase agreement although that could change.

Can’t tell you how devastated I was when he originally turned us down, but god bless Ange…one phone call with him, and Mathys Tel agreed to join Tottenham on loan, with a buy option of £47.5m.

Remarkable get by Lange, Levy & Ange if this all works out, and we are able to make the deal permanent this summer.….and it’s a great shot in the arm given how devastated by injuries we are atm.

  • Nico Gonzalez to Man City from Porto. Will probably take time for him to find his feet in the Prem. BIG step up.
  • Ben Chilwell is on loan to Palace, who knocked back Spurs' efforts to pry Marc Guehi away
  • Everton apparently agreed to a deal with Flamengo for 22 YO mid Carlos Alcaraz.
  • Brighton has loaned Evan Ferguson to West Ham, and have brought in striker Stefanos Tzimas from Nuremburg. And the Hammers got back James Ward-Prowse from his Forest loan deal.
  • Joao Felix to AC Milan apparently set.
  • Surprised that Willian is back with Fulham, but he comes on a free.
  • Was the Disasi deal done? How about Malaccia to PSV from Man U? And what of Mathis Amougou to Chelsea from St Etienne?
  • Brentford brought in an 18 YO striker from Birmingham, Romelle Donovan.
  • Ipswich signed 28 YO keeper Alex Palmer from West Brom

Suprised United didn't add anyone, particuarly since they think so little of their strikers, they had them both on the bench yesterday.
Arsenal didn't get a striker, either, though I'm not sure the need is immediately great for them.
And my Reds biggest deal was loaning one youngster to Spanish side (Bajcetic to Las Palmas from RBS) and another to Sunderland (Jayden Danns). Had hoped for a cover at the six (if Gravenberch gets hurt we're in a world of hurt) but I guess they'll ride with Endo as his cover. 😬 The summer will undoubtedly be super busy, especially if they can't come to terms with any Salah, van Dyke and Alexander-Arnold.

Levy gets on a plane to try to personally close the deal with Tel - immediately reported that Tel will not go to Spurs
Ange gets on the phone with Tel and calls him "mate" a bunch of times - Tel agrees to loan with option to buy

I love how delusional Levy is in thinking he's the type of likable person who can get the deal over the line. I bet Ange was just like, don't worry, you'll never actually have to deal with that guy.

I've also watched a bunch of Marco Asensio clips and have talked myself into getting excited about him. I didn't understand why Buendia didn't play for most of the year and when he was finally integrated, immediately got loaned off, but Asensio is clearly a superior version of that type of player so I'm happy. Still haven't talked myself into Rashford fully other than the fact that unlike Duran, he can potentially play on the field at the same time as Watkins. Also still hate the fact that Nedeljkovic was never given any actual chance this year and that we included a buy option in the loan deal. Hopefully the Disasi loan gets finalized, because my goodness do we need another CB. I feel weird about this window, because we clearly got stronger right now, but it's a bit of a get stronger for the present, but possibly weaker in the future by shipping off young players and bringing in all players on the wrong side of 25.

Honestly, at this point the January window is kind of a sucker's market. If your team is active in January it's a sign of trouble ... which I can confirm in Villa's case. Although their trouble is largely injury related.

Yeah, the problem with Duran was between his ears. He just hasn't grown up yet and wasn't pliable when he needed to be to help his club. Rashford may be in the mother of all funks, but at least he'll happily trot out and play the wing if you ask him nicely. If nothing else, having him around will probably jar Bailey out of feeling so secure that he's no longer troubled to even pretend to play defense.

On Buendia, I'm just not sure Emery every trusted the guy from Day 1. Replacing him with a slicker version who will play the system without a lot of chatter is probably a net win. And Villa obviously has no qualms about extending a contract and then selling a guy later. If Asensio works out, I expect Buendia to be sold pretty quickly this summer ... even if Asensio ends up going back to Paris.

Apparently PSG has offered Asensio to us as a loan for the remainder of his contract, so if things work out, we can basically re-up it for next season.

I will say, that while Villa were very active in the January market, there is a huge net transfer positive based on the Duran sale and the Philogene sale basically canceled out the Malen buy for transfer fees at least. The rest of the big moves are all short term loans, so they won't really effect our finances going forward.
