Suzuki Signs 8 Year Extension @7.8 Mill

His numbers will never the same as the super elites, but when he’s on the ice he’s typically the best player out there regardless of who they are matched up against. Massive IQ, could be a perennial Selke contender.
Hence why he’s not being paid super elite $$$

Not sure I like this. But I guess this is the cost to do business with players like him.

Caufield will be in the same situation next off-season. If all goes well, we will have our own Bergeron/Pasta $14M combo. Nice way to build a team.

I'm good with this. By no means is it a bargain, but Suzuki feels like a high floor guy. It could end up being an overpayment.... But it seems unlikely to be a disaster. And there's a chance it could be a bargain.

At 22 years old, we are paying for potential and his prime years. I

Well if you look what Couturier and some other guys signed for then it should be ok. I would rather Suzuki at 7.87 then KK at 6.1 :) With the liberals/democrats running up inflation to the Pierre Trudeau days, it might be a bargain in a couple of years.

I'm happy to see Habs' management actually learning from recent history. Very pleased with this deal!

its a fine deal

This isnt gambling on KK
It's a smaller gamble. As long as he keeps performing like he did in the second half, it won't be an issue and might evolve into a bargain. I don't hate it, i think it can be a good deal on both sides, but he's being paid like a ppg player.

You'd be hard pressed to sign a point per game player at this salary right now.
