Tech Thread

seems absurd comparing it to Day 1 twitter (especially as a %)....but thats irrelevant as the Threads number itself is newsworthy and pretty shocking.

They benefit enormously from going early to capitalize on Elon's flub....but it'll be interesting if that's damaging in the long wrong by not having had key features like a desktop version you can post from, trending etc, ready to go for so long.

edit: what kind of grand opening did insta have week one, cause those are even more insane numbers.

curious if this had anything to do with it....but how many could realistically been utilizing it via VPN anyway, i guess.

Part of the overall point though is that threads isn't threads, its Instagram. So a lot of IG users checked it out and don't appear to be sticking around. The numbers were always juiced and not really real.

The people full on abandoning twitter are likely minority.

Fwiw, I don't assess this the way I do because I like elon or elons version of twitter. Its dying, but threads isn't the replacement either imo.

its not though...on desktop anyway ive seen nothing that would even tell me threads existed.....everyone downloaded it from their app stores and just used their instagram account to sign in...(just like folks use their google/facebook/amazon accounts to sign into places more quickly/easily.

There's no tab or anything on insta that made signing into Threads more enticing, as far as I know. (unless there was something drastically different on the app, which is possible).

I was just pointing out how irrelevant I think those other comparables are, given the raw numbers we're talking about ....because I'm pretty sure the likes of Twitter and Instagram hade minuscule user bases in their first week of operation? maybe I'm wrong......like even Clubhouse which I recall being the big phenomenon for a minute, peaked at like 8 million downloads per month at it's most popular, but had been out for over a year at that point?

also in terms of people still having the app on their phone and being able to pick it back up at a moments notice the number would be astronomically high, given people have to delete their instagram profile to delete their threads account. If you thought it was too seamless to adopt because of how it was set up wrt to insta, it's exponentially more seamless to pick it back up if it becomes the new town square alternative over the long term.

Time will tell..bit early for victory laps (on either side) tho.

It was always Bluesky. Jack is the only person who can deliver crisp, clean data without all the gay bullshit. And he was very breedable back in the day. Probably has a decent cock too.

More proof it isn't me: I do not keep up with this social media drama. I like Twitter and the people make it great. I'll follow them anywhere or stay at Twitter if that's the end result. I don't care. As of now Twitter still seems good to me so I stay.

I don't even eat fast food, much less fangirl over the American A&W. The story doesn't add up even if you try to connect the dots. He is clearly trying very hard to make it seem like me and has obviously done a good job to his credit
