What irks me as someone who earns money photographing architecture, is how accessible incredible architecture is today vs this "glorious civilization" bullshit they're pumping here.

There is some gorgeous gothic, baroque, & renaissance (Florence cathedral on the right is from that period) design that deserves to be appreciated today. But they're almost entire examples of a highly stratified society where the wealthy church, or wealthy aristrocracy owned the fucking economy and built stuff as a dick measuring contest.

It's largely become the inverse in the modern era, where most impressive architecture is funded by the public and is built to be enjoyed by the public.

wait you don't think it's accurate to compare modern apartment/office buildings with the most glorious single-use sctructures of the past?

I wonder why they never show us pictures of the glorious apartment/office buildings of the past.

I think one of the photos they used is of Kowloon walled city, which no one anywhere would every consider to be archicture of note.

Shockingly, they don't appear to have an understanding of what "modern" architecture is either.
 
I'll say this though....I can understand why a Canadian incel not from Toronto would think that society is in decline and that modern architecture sucks. We don't build much of anything to be beautiful in this fucking country.
