Tech Thread

that first one is horrible and ridiculous looking.

It's an art gallery, it supposed to be interesting in some way or another.

In fairness, that's kind of a wonky angle to shoot it from and the photography itself is grim (there should never be converging vertical lines in an exterior architectural photo unless the design includes converging vertical lines...like pyramids, etc)

Here's a few better compositions of the same building

That bottom one in a bridge in calgary that I used to live 2-3 blocks from. I love when we do shit like this. Worth every penny.

Calatrava is a pimp. He did a museum in Milwaukee and it's about the only reason I've ever considered going to Milwaukee

I mean in the second one it looks like a spaceship accidentally parked on a strip mall.

tbf I also don't love the Lee-Chin crystal thing here in town for more or less the same reason.

It's a bit of a Gehry derivative, and I don't love it but it's better than the brutalist shit that typified almost all of our public buildings built between 1950-2000.

Here's the "old" Art Gallery (the new one is a retrofit of the old, which probably is a major cause of the clash in styles)

I dig the ROM design personally, but that might partially be because I find victorian architecture to be boring and kind of like shitting on the traditionalism with a design intended to be the opposite of it.

Only thing that bugs me about the ROM is that Libeskind had kinda already done that in a bunch of places.

The one in dresden is from roughly the same time period though no?

hmm i thought there was another one more similar to ours maybe i was hoodwinked. I do love the design so that would be nice to know i'm just a dummy.

He may have done others earlier, dunno, I'm only familiar with the one in Dresden.

I wonder what the world's richest man is working on today. Could it be colonizing Mars, or fine-tuning that self-driving technology that will revolutionize the world?

It is truly amazing to behold just how much it broke his brain when a single one of his dozens of children came out as trans and rejected Elon.

He’s been in a never-ending fit of pique and narcissistic rage ever since.
