Tech Thread

Just checked into Facebook for the first time in a long time, and this Proud Boy shit is what their algo is serving up on my news feed:

…not bothering at all with “Threads” remains a good decision.

I'm someone who used to be a daily user of both insta and facebook.

Now I am a daily user of neither, beyond the utility of facebook messenger.

In both cases, my feed went from something primarily populated with posts from folks I follow, to the opposite. And it became fucking unusable because of all the junk I needed to scroll past to see anything of interest. Eventually, it just wasn't worth the scrolling anymore.

Sadly twitter is in the same boat for me now.

Maybe this is just me getting old and cranky? But the user experience has deteriorated so fucking significantly in both.

I believe social media posting frequency has declined significantly but I'm not sure of the data there.

And that would be even though corporate/bot posting seems to have gone through the roof on all platforms.

Yeah, I’m old enough to remember the days when Facebook’s feed showed you only updates or pics shared by people from your friends list.

Now it’s all ads, random pages, random memes and cringe shit like the above.

Pretty much the only aspect of Facebook I use anymore is Marketplace.

oh fuck don't get me started on fucking Marketplace. the wild west of the fucking internet. goodness me.

I've tried to use Marketplace and usually end up so frustrated by it that I just buy the shit I'm trying to find on marketplace new. such a goddamn cesspool.

I primarily use messenger. and keep my account out of almost necessity as some businesses etc. only disseminate information via social media these days (wifey disabled hers)
