Tech Thread

Nope.

- IG to keep an eye on top A&D photographers work so I can remind myself every few days how bad my work is.
- Xitter to watch the world burn in real time
- Flickr as a place to post my non business related photo stuff

That's it, that's all. I try to avoid the almight algo whenever possible, especially when it's a known CCP invention.

any tiktokers among us?

I've avoided it for a bunch of reasons. don't want CCP having my data, not really a video guy (I like text). fuck the stupid algos among them.

My TikTok is mostly food / nutrition, nerdy stuff, with some politics sprinkled in. It is really amazing how the algo works. When I first installed TikTok I ended up looking mostly at dances, pet videos, etc. Over time my likes changed and now the Algo is pushing completely different content.

Also, Twitter is garbage. I went from spending 30-60 minutes on it daily to less than 15.
it seems to have bounced back a touch recently, but yeah, under Elmo it has generally gone to shit.

I used to be a daily IG user but now go on maybe once or twice a week, pretty briefly. they really degraded the user experience over time (basically only 1/4-1/3 of content in my feed are from people I follow).

I still have FB mostly out of necessity for communications etc.

and I cannot seem to force myself off twitter, even though I exclusively lurk there.

feeling old.

IG's shift towards their algo pushing reels/video reduced my time on it a bunch. I was drawn to it largely because a lot of the top photographers in the world in the fields I care about (A&D, Landscape) post their work there.

and yeah, I went from a 30+ minute a day twitter habit and it legitimately helping to inform me on what was going on in the world to using it almost only when I've been alerted to an event already and wanting more information.

Forgot that I use facebook to buy and sell stuff. It's basically become a kijiji that sells my user data.

you're braver than I. I ventured into fb marketplace once recently, what a fucking cesspool

I've never had a single bad marketplace experience wtf.

And I'm one of the few that still loves twitter. I hate Elon as much as anyone but for me it's better than ever.

I definitely had a dude trying to set me up to rob me one time when I was looking at a gimbal he had for sale. Wanted to meet real close to Jane and Finch but when I suggested the parking lot of the cop shop right there typed lol and ghosted me
