I think the root problem here is semantic in nature. What we're using now isn't really "AI" and it's poorly positioned to be "AI" in the future. The label has been borrowed for branding purposes. There's no latent intelligence there capable of evolving into a problem solving or creation engine. It's a database that assigns a numerical likelihood that this random piece of data it's scraped and categorized is connected to this other random piece of data and then pukes those out at you if you say the magic words to it in the order it's algo says is most likely to make sense.

It's kind of incredible at what it is, but it's way more akin to an educated guessing machine than it is a true intelligence and I don't know if I see a pathway to AGI through this type of computational science.

That is definitely some interesting backstory.
