I might be a sociopath because of this…..but I take so much joy in how transparently desperate he is for the love & attention of other and yet despite all the enormously successful endeavours he's had, he’s still painfully insecure and feels empty inside.

Normally I’d never wish those kinds of mental health issues on anyone, but given all the shit he causes while trying to push others down, I take a real perverse joy in it, in this instance.

sad part is, he could have achieved some of this just by turning Twitter into what he said he wanted, a marketplace for free speech and exchange of ideas. Instead, he tripled and quadrupled down on platforming Nazis, Russian propaganda, and deep throating Trumpism. All while basically destroying Twitter from the inside out.

I’ve said it about Trump, but it really strikes me that Elon is cut from the same cloth, in that he craves a kind of unconditional parental love that his father never game him…..and he’s spent his entire life trying unsuccessfully to fill that void.

Yeah, I think they are almost exactly the same in that regard. They both have a bottomless craving for praise and attention that can never be filled, and will do anything and turn to anyone that will offer any fleeting satiation of that craving.

When Musk was successfully presenting himself as a real-life Tony Stark that was going to revolutionize private & mass transportation, solve global warming and take human civilization to the stars, he was happy to court the adulation of progressives and science nerds.

But when those same people turned on him once he started protesting public health mandates during Covid that were impacting his bottom line, he was happy to do a hard pivot towards the people that started giving him adulation instead—MAGA-world, the far right & conspiracy nuts.

And those people also had a ready-made balm for his ego when he was being wholly rejected by his trans child around the same time. It’s not his fault—they were just “infected by the woke mind virus”!

it’s also far easier to be popular with the uneducated guy crowd. Ask Trump. Ask Jordan P. ask Rogan, etc

I guess we all should have been expecting that big media companies and tech companies would in very short order find a way to make cord-cutting every bit as expensive as bloated cable TV packages used to be, if not more.

I've only streamed through legal sources for many years now, but this shit---along with the expanding and outrageous practice of subjecting paid subscribers to ads peppered throughout their content---is probably going to drive me to become piratical again.
