hopefully "a while" = "never again in a Leaf uniform"

Yeah, in an ideal world, he and his cap hit go on LTIR for the rest of the regular season.

And then by the time he's ready to come back, Liljegren and/or whoever we've added at the deadline have permanently relegated him to the press box for the remainder of his Leaf career (assuming our goaltending holds up and we get into the playoffs).

As well---if Rielly & Ceci are both on LTIR for the rest of the season, we have a fuck-ton of cap space to work with at the deadline.

I can't envision Ceci being held out of the lineup when everyone is healthy. He should be, but hard to imagine.

The injury is actually a bad thing for us. If we had a chance to get rid of him before, that's now gone and we have to just hope he stays out.

I feel like our fourth line is getting worse. Slower, less skilled. I don't know if Clifford makes us better, or the opposite, but him with Spezza there too makes me feel a little pukey. I haven't seen the guy in action, but he looks like crap in the clips packages.
The average Leaf fan will love him but yeah, he might not help at all.

Clifford is an old hack and a chop guy.

Spezza has been superb this season. How Clifford works with Spezza? No idea But Clifford is a hack.

This is mostly a hail mary on Campbell. Whose numbers are all over the map.

that's LTIR money that's opened up right there.. .and with Reilly as well. Leafs could land a pretty big salary for the back end.

So if Rielly and Ceci are held out until the playoffs the Leafs could add $9.5 mill in salary. And if you move one of Kappy/Johnson//Kerfoot you can fit any salary in the league.

could you flip Barrie for a 1st then move Kappy, Dermott and a 1st for Karlsson or something?

Rielly-Karlsson
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Lilly

People keep discussing a retained Subban

Of course connecting the dots from last years draft but fuck thats a risky deal even at 50% retained

That would be absolutely filthy.

I havent watched enough of Karlsson since he left for SJ to make a comment but he is still on pace for close to 60pts and is an abysmal .954 PDO

However 7 more years at 11.5 and a wonky ankle is too risky

I don't disagree. But I also just imagine Karlsson on Keefe's puck possession team and on the ice at the same time with Willy-Matthews-Marner-Rielly.

It doesn't have to be Karlsson though, was just thinking about the best possible RHD that might be moved.

It's too bad but that playoff run where Karlsson was just amazing cost him dearly. He's not the same player.
In my lifetime I have never seen a Dman as dominant in the playoffs as Karlsson in 2017.
He might as well be 5+ years older with what was done to his ankle.

There really aren't any great, realistic RHD targets. The best vets on bad teams are Karlsson, Burns, Doughty, Weber and Petry, but those teams probably won't actually move those guys. Same goes for players like Spurgeon, Ellis, Pesce, Manson etc. whose names are out there. So you are probably paying a high price to take a chance on a young dman like Severson, Dumba being good, or an ok vet that isn't really a top pair D like Savard, Larsson, Vatanen etc. Unless you find a gem lower in someone's lineup/outside the NHL.

Pietrangelo making it to UFA is probably the best, realistic option. Other than that maybe taking a chance on Subban.

They should save the cap space to take a run and Pietro and failing that just move Rielly to the right side.

Sandin-Rielly
Muzzin-Holl
Dermott-Lilly

Yeah, it fundamentally changed him. He's still very very good but just not that perfect skater that he was anymore.
