There's no useful context lost from the portion I omitted.

The people you're referring to in the first portion are the same people from the second portion, but you're claiming two completely different characteristics as if they're separate groups. They're not.

Your general line on this over the last few weeks since you joined here suggests to me that you're flat out unfamiliar with the people you're talking about, who they are, and how they watch/view the game and you continue to ascribe reasonable views on analytics to them where they just don't exist. You're just not familiar with the state of hockey discourse in my opinion and you're inventing the opinions of the "eye test" crowd as you go along to make them seem as if they're soberly and evenly measuring the value of public analytics. They're not.

Which is almost all of them. The vast, vast majority of them wholly dismiss the numbers as soon as the numbers disagree with their eye test. Which means that they're largely just making noises in agreement to not seem like mouth breathers in between eye test hot takes.

Im not walking anything back friend.

Im clearly saying there are people who use analytics and the eye test to varying degrees.

From the guy who thinks Nylander is a wimp who doesn’t belong to the guy who doesn’t believe emotion is a pert of the game cause it isn’t in the stats.

I dont think this both sides take is true.

There is nobody that uses analytics that literally ignores the eye test (though of course they will make fun of those who claim their personal eye test trumps all other evidence).

On the other hand, many if not most of the eye test crowd dismisses analytics entirely. Like completely.


What makes it all the funnier is that that eye test crowd doesn't hate stats - they love using goals and points and plus minus, and would NEVER suggest that those stats are useless.

They don't hate stats - they just hate the good stats, and love the bad ones.

One of these types of people exists in copious amounts. The other is a phantasm that you've created.

This is my underlying issue with your entire line of discussion here. You're inventing a 2nd side so you can #bothsides the conversation.

oh I think I get it...... In your view the #bothsides is, people who fairly use all data available to them vs people who only watch the games and dismiss the available analytics.

Yes though, that is an accurate depiction of hockey discourse in Toronto. There is a side that attempts to fairly use available data, and there's another that dismisses it outright in favour of eye test/tropes, etc. You're more than welcome to turn on sports radio in Toronto, follow leaf twitter/facebook, etc to get an accurate cross section of what the conversation in Toronto actually is.
 
Nylander is a a freaking beast. Hate his father all you want. But "they" have beefed this kid up so well.

Great player, lets keep watching. "They" aint stealing any money from MLSE. At all.

Just great to watch. Think about it, kid worked like a dog, for years.. To what? Steal? Nah, this kid wants to display. Keep watching.

I ain't sayin much of anything any more Lets keep watchin. Best team in the NHL.

This team is a hot damn.

But after we bump team after team in the playoffs, you are for sure gonna HEAR from me. Till Then. Best team in the NHL Rocks.
