The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

I've been as vocal as anyone about not wanting JT, but even I'm willing to accept two things

1) He was worth the money in year 1
2) He sucked dick last year, but having a baby in the summer (with a wife who allegedly wouldn't allow a nanny) really fucks with off season training. He just looked weaker on the puck this year.

The guy has always been a hard working gud pro, so I'm hoping that the covid time is being well spent from a fitness standpoint. Because yeah, paying 11m a year to the ~20th best centre in hockey strikes me as a bad idea. We need him to be that top 10 centre he was from his first season for as long as possible. The last few seasons of the contract were always likely to suck.
He was worth the money in year one for sure, but I have a suspicion that is likely to be the only year of the contract where that is the case.

He also had a broken hand. tough season for JT, along with most of the team...I think Matthews and Nylander had good seasons, the rest were pretty shit.

Personally, I'd rather complain about a 94 point or 40-50 goal forwards as my "bad contracts", instead of actual bad contracts.

yeah, our 'bad' contracts are to objectively good players. if you're going to overspend, do it on those guys. not the Lucic/Okposo/Ladd/Leino/Komisareks of the world

Man, that would be rough as a professional athlete.

Who do you guys want us to go after this summer?

Bring back Spezza, and/or see if you can find any other bargain vets.

Sign Robin Lehner if you can get him for a reasonable term, and then flip Freddie.

That’d be about it, I think. There’s no one I’d want us to sign to a big contract, including Pietrangelo.

Hope they are preparing Roberston for his October debut. Is he eligible for the PO of they go down soon? If so bring him up for that as well

As a Leafs draft pick that’s signed to an ELC, and who played in the CHL this year, he’s eligible to play for either the Leafs or the Marlies in either the 2019/20 regular season or playoffs as soon as his junior season is done.

So, since the CHL have cancelled the remainder of their season and playoffs, if the 2019/20 NHL season resumes, Robertson could (and probably would) be added to the Leaf roster.

We also get a likely 100% healthy Rielly back again for final push. Maybe this time let’s Marner clear his head cause before the season started, felt nothing good was coming when he posted that terrible video of him reading his letter to fans

IMO, the teams getting a bye don’t have the regular advantage. there’s no season to rest from, and they will be rusty AF
