The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

No different know , you think Dubas was handing half the cap to 4 players if he thought the cap in 2023 was 81 mil and not 92 ?

I mean a few million dollars of harder bargaining maybe, but not that much difference.

And yeah, if Marner gets dealt anywhere in the next few years, it won’t be because they need to clear cap space.

We’re just likely going to be seeing even fewer forwards & defensemen in that $3M+ range.

And for better or worse, we’ll probably continue to go cheap in goal. The good of that is that Freddie will be gone, but it remains to be seen whether Dubas can get us competent goaltending at a good price. He certainly failed at it last season & this year.

Yep goaltending is the big gamble. Hopefully campbell is part of that answer. And hopefully one of the prospects takes a big leap forward. Even then though there are always good cheap goalies available.

The easy way out would be to trade Marner. And they'd still be an elite team and get an elite package in return and would likely have no cap issues moving forward.

But Dubas don't do easy.

It wouldn't be easy at all. but it has to be done now. the landscape has changed.

Since entering the league, Mitch is 17th in the league in scoring.

Last 2yrs he's 11th. 12th in ppg.

Nobody his age or younger is higher than him. Nobody his age or younger is in the top 25, other than Auston.

He's not getting traded because he was a little off in a season with a high ankle sprain.

Honestly, Marner didn’t really play that well right from the start of the season. Just looked a bit “off” all year.

...aaaand yet, he still scored at a 90+ point pace over 59 games.

You don’t trade that away to clear cap space.

People to move for cap space:
1. Kerfoot
2. Johnsson
3. Kappy
4. Engvall

Dont resign ceci, barrie and only sign clifford if it is at a discount.

The leafs are in as good of a cap situation as any team in the league. Only money committed long term is to legit top line players.

Kerfoot, kappy, johnsson, dermott. Even gives us enough room to make a major add at RHD.

Of course not. You trade it to reallocate cap space.

Also we were trading least 2 of Kerfoot/Johnsson/Kapanen pre-flat cap. you can't have a 10 million dollar 3rd line that really doesn't produce.

Dubas has a real eye for finding undervalued talent in the draft and in FA and if that trend continues they will be able to carry on paying top elite talent

So your position is that the Leafs are in such dire shape cap-wise that we’ll need to salary dump two of Kerfoot/Johnsson/Kapanen, and then salary-dump Mitch on top of that?

I really can’t see any evidence to support that.
