The Centennial Season thread (aka the ****ing season thread)

We have trust issues

It's gotta stop we sound like lunatics.

Lou: Lupul is hurt.
Leaf fans: I dunno, sounds fishy...
Lupul: Yeah, I'm hurt.
Leaf fans: Robidas Island. Lou is the godfather! League will definitely investigate!!
Lou: Also, we're not gonna sign Prust
Leaf fans: WHAT IF THEY SIGN PRUST THO!?
Lou: Oh, and Leivo's hurt.
Preston: I don't think he's hurt.
Lou: *puts him on IR*

So, 8 blueliners, no Laich and Lievo in purgatory.

Brown makes the cut, but you gotta figure that if he doesn't do well early on, they'll send him and his waiver exemption to the Marlies.

Oh and 6 rookies. That's a lot of em, but not any on the blueline (and the one there is more experienced than many of the others).

Pretty surprised they actually sent both Laich and Greening down. Really didn't expect that.

I really like all of their moves, except retaining Hunwick. That one I just don't get. Hopefully Lou removes him from Babs' board soon.

The orthodox play here would be to play the veterans who are making guaranteed NHL money, use the kids as injury fill ins during the season and try to cash in at the deadline again.

I'm glad they went a different way though, it's the way we've been screaming for the team to go for years now...give the kids a chance over plug veterans.

ya. with a handful of solid vets throughout the top 9 there was no need to keep old 12th/13th forwards like laich and greening. i'm glad they recognized that.

gotta hurt for a guy like laich but he's done. he had 16 goals in 11-12. he has 18 goals since then. he isn't an nhl'er any more. and greening might never have been.

what i'm happiest about is that they've pushed a guy like hyman into the top 9 and don't feel like they need to justify the martin signing.

Martin better do more than just punch faces. Even if he does he better punch a lot of faces to be worth his money and term.

I don't think Martin's biggest strength is the fighting/protection bs. IMO none of that even matters.

Its the hitting. He hits everything. That can wear on a D and force turnovers. It would be better if he could play hockey too, but what are you going to do.

ya he hits and has good enough hands to chip in with a few goals, move up in the lineup if there's an injury or take the odd shift with your skill guys if you need to stir the pot a bit.

not totally different to how the leafs used domi in the early 2000s.

I'd still rather he not be here, but if Martin can be a poor man's Leo Komarov and not hurt his line to the point where they can't be trusted to take a regular shift, I'll be okay with that. And I don't even particularly care how many faces he punches this year.

Let's wait and see how Martin pans out before jumping to conclusions about his play. He's definitely a big hitter. I'll give it 10 games to see if maybe he should slide up when the Leafs are facing thuggish teams.
