The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

I got the feeling from those behind the scenes episodes and their interactions that Dubie isn't enamored with Keefe's ways.

why would he? He's turning Dubas' Amex Platinum Card into BMO Air Miles year after year

these guys all seem to be targeted by Dubas. I'd expect Keefe has spoken with him and helped inform dubas the type of players he wants in and out.

He is acquiring Keefe type guys and trading away the guys he clearly does not like... So I don't fully agree that Kyle is anti Keefe or anything. Mostly seems like he's working with him and giving him the kind of team that he wants.

I do like the idea of wearing down the opposing team through hits etc over the course of a series. Also I like the idea of playing people tougher down the stretch. However I didn't really like the Sandin return but I understand it. I could care less about Engvall.

Now I see a Kerfoot to the 3rd line LW spot which is not terrible imo. But it would be great to get a 2nd liner to play on the 3rd line.

Coaches have way too much power in north american sports, I think that's one of the inefficiencies we will see fixed in the future. Good GM's are becoming very data driven (the effect of Gritensity can be proven through data as well) only to have their coach take a fat shit on the roster composition and play the lineup the way his "gut" thinks it should be played.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it start happening the NBA more in the future first, the European football styled manager who deals with player transfer, contracts, roster deployment and tactics and then that to take the usual 7 years for the NHL to figure it out. The NBA has dabbled with it in the past but it always works backwards, a great coach moves to the front office.

I do believe playoff hockey is a different animal -- the fact that you play each other every two days means any physicality you impose on your opponent in game 1 and 2 continues to have residual benefits later in the series.

How you measure this analytically vs pure puck and possesion skills is unfortunately above my pay grade at this time.

Bolded for emphasis. It's never too late.

I think that may be more coincidence as things have evolved. I doubt Dubie is catering to Keefe's wishes with his contract expiring and a tough first round coming up again. I believe he's decided to try something new, by just reforming the bottom six to be more aggressive, faster, tenacious. I think Dubie is also very sensitive to term issues - it certainly was a factor in the Sandin trade (even if he got ahead of it too early imo), and he probably didn't envision being able to resign Engvall in the summer while Lafferty comes with an extra year of term (and a very unfortunate name for this team).

great cap hits across the board on these guys as well. Really helps set us up going forward and easy to move if we want to bury/move on from them

Obviously, Tampa has a formula they like because they keep making similar moves every trade deadline

I did say, Holl really hasn't been spectacular this year in my view. I haven't been thrilled with his play, as he seems to just hold onto the puck for way too long and has a hard time passing or skating it out, or making a play out of the D zone. If Schenn has been doing that more ably in Vancouver of all places, then there's a strong, strong chance he's here because Holl is on his way out.
