The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

And it’s very easy to see this forward group as significantly better with one good add.

They just need one legit 20 goal winger, which would be a massive upgrade on Engvall.

the Schenn deal was kinda the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

losing Engvall for nothing seems silly, but I could live with it, especially given playoff Pierre.

I wasn't even that upset to see Sandin go for not really much of anything, I was ready to trade him last season.

and in a vacuum, acquiring McCabe at 50% retained was a shrewd move, but that was before we saw the cost on Chychrun and Ekholm, both of whom I think are superior to McCabe.

Lafferty I don't know that I care about but maybe I should.

and I was never in favour of acquiring ROR either, although I was and remain willing to be wrong on that.

Acciari was maybe the best fucking move, which is saying something.

but Luke fucking Schenn? for a 3rd? to displace a better d-man (we all know and expect this to happen, hence the unholy rage)? fuck right off you Cro-Magnon motherfuckers. fuck right off.
What he tried before didn't work. If you get out of the first round the talking dinosaurs will be all "see, told you, needed Luke Schenn".

Pretty much a lose lose situation. Even if you win you lose with them.

Even then, it remains to be seen whether we got old and busted O’Reilly, or some approximation of “good O’Reilly”.

5 points in 6 games, but pointless in 4 of the 6. Okay but just okay nerdies so far in small sample.

I'm holding off on commenting on O'Reilly because the mother fucker won a Conn Smythe not long ago. I'll just say that my eye test finds him to be a painful hockey player to watch and makes the team mucho slower.

But there is some faith in the back of my mind that he's still realgud or, even if not, at least a good 3c. But if he's a 3c you better give him a trigger man winger to play with..

yeah....that trade board is just them guessing (with some education)

Athletic "trade board" and all of these players either seem underwhelming or unattainable.. Kyle will grab a rando that no one expected to get moved. I believe.

Schmaltz is quickly becoming my favourite name. Would be interesting if we would just push JT to the LW and kill 2 birds with one stone. Send Kerfoot as balast and whatever stuff is necessary. I don't think he would cost that much given him contract.

McMann

Need to beat the Flames tonight and really push them toward being sellers at the deadline.

as someone mentioned earlier, McMann did look pretty good, and has been tearing up the minors. Gotta figure he'll be back when the smoke clears.

Holmberg's a weird case. Is he good enough to be the #3C? Right now probably not. and Kampf has 4C kind of on lockdown. It is possible they try Holmy at 4C and send Kampf to the press box?

Limited sample but his game suits the bottom 6

Some puck luck and he would have some pts go to along with the good nerdies

ROR is the obvious choice for 3C imo. The shit he's still really good at is the exact type of stuff you figure we could use to free up Auston and mostly JT from the defensive lifting they still do. Imo, putting ROR on the 2nd line just to force JT and Nylander/Marner to start half of their 5v5 shifts in the defensive zone seems like a fucking waste.

The concern for me right now is that they will need to subtract from the roster in order to add anyone for cap reasons. So either they subtract Holl and Schenn is a guaranteed regular (he probably already is a regular, but this would cement it). Or they subtract Kerf and still have some issues with their depth. Getting a Kerf upgrade is great, but this would essentially cost them Kerf+Engvall so the returns are immediately diminished quite a bit.

The other, far more intriguing option, is if they can trade Kerf and add 2 forwards instead of just the one and keep Holl as the 6 and Schenn the 7. But I don't think that's likely.

But.. I do agree that there are plenty of ways that they can improve the team, even if not drastically so. We'll see what he does.
Boone Jenner and Erik Robinson
JVR and That Flyer who is never not a Flyer
Max Domi and Judah Kuhora
Connor Sheary and Josh Rawlet

Hmm. It is true, if Holmberg and McMann are planned to be in the bottom six, that kinda changes everything. But what are the chances that that is actually the plan, and that would also mean dumping garbage like ZAR before the deadline (or I guess they can waive him after and send him to the Marlies).
