The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

FWIW:
Crouse is at a 1.86P/60 rate at 5 on 5 - this is a fair amount worse than Jarnkrok
Schmaltz is at 2.44 - this is around Tavares level with a fair bit of luck involved due to a high S% and on-ice S%

Fwiw, I'm pro Schmaltz now too. Fuck it.

all signs point to no.

I'm not too proud to admit that I'm a bit agitated. We keep getting slower and less skilled while showing the same "lack of compete" that these moves are all alleged to address while on the other hand not playing or flat out giving away good depth kids and placing value on complete passengers like the Kerfoot's and Jarnkrok's of the world.

It just really seems like there isn't a coherent philosophy at work here.

How hard is it to build a winning bottom 6

Apparently it's quite difficult.

Though I thought we took big strides towards doing that with the ROR trade until I found out that the plan was apparently to make him our 2C and not 3C. ROR+Acciari into the bottom 6 improves it a lot.

Tampa suggests it’s not that hard as long as you don’t mind hearing from the pundits that you overpaid for it

If you get a Crouse or Jenner I think you’ll get what you want. Even Schmaltz or Boesser

I just think it's funny that the Leafs have what looks to be their best team in years and the rest of the conference loaded up too.

Murphy's law

They also keep pumping out Cirelli's, Gourde's and Colton's, prioritize old boys with gas left in the tank like Perry & Maroon...and yes overpay for Coleman's, Gudpro's, and Bagel's.

But they clearly have a relatively well defined "type" in their bottom 6 that remains pretty consistent year over year.

A coherent roster building philosophy that they just keep doing over and over again.

Meh at this point the lineup has as many downgrades as upgrades from the padt few years.
Where?

You know my stance on the goaltending but where? Yes Schenn is mind-numbingly overrated by the NHL GMs but I really like the forward group and the D is strong still. Maybe not Carolina or Boston strong but it can get the job done.

As always I question the goaltending.

Tampa is not the best team in the east anymore. Although they may still have the best playoff goalie.

Mikheyev ---> O'Reilly
Engvall ------> Acciari
Kase ----------> Jarnkrok
Blackwell ---> Lafferty
Spezza ------> ZAR

Muzzin -------> McCabe
Boosh ---------> Schenn
Sandin --------> Gustafsson

Campbell -----> Samsonov
Mrazek ---------> Murray

Not overwhelmed by the "upgrades" tbh.

To play Zeke for a moment:

- Muzzin to McCabe is a downgrade
- We never replaced Spezza's skill in the bottom 6
- Mikky to Jarnkrok is a downgrade
- Engvall to Lafferty or whatever the fuck is a downgrade
- He had a mushy head, but none of the depth we've added is better than Kase imo
- Lyubuskin to Schenn is a downgrade

The only clear upgrade is ROR

Get that 2nd line winger for 1st rounder +, and all will fall into place, including having ROR anchor the 3rd line

Dubas will get it done - too much at stake and too much prep work already in the can

This is what I’m expecting as well.

The plan is clear. Make the bottom six bad so you have to play the top 6 more.

Just need the big names to show up in the playoffs.
