The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

The media thinks you should just scratch young players in the playoffs till their careers end I guess.
That argument was actually made last week about Woll being the #3 . Not enough "Experience" to be a 3rd goalie.

Funny how Weekes and other “insiders” were pushing the idea that the Leafs were apparently in desperate need of going out and trading for a veteran 3rd stringer.

Meanwhile no such concerns for literally any other NHL team—including Tampa, who currently has Brian Elliott as their #2.

The correlation between players/ex players and their ability to coach/GM is not great.

They always fall back to puck in deep, cant teach heart , 110% bs bs bs

Defense and goaltending.. They desperately wanted the Leafs to acquire players that will ultimately sit in the pressbox. It was pretty bizarre. Dubas gladly obliged on the D bit, but I'm thankful he likely never even considered trading futures for a scrub goalie to sit in the pressbox.

The players who end up in coaching are rarely the skill guys… so not believing in the gud pro bs would threaten their entire identity

Not saying it will pan out, but I feel fortunate that Martin St Louis is a skill guy with a lot of heart

In some ways I'm kind of surprised (and thankful) that the media has decided to randomly underrate Leafs goaltending. Let's face it: Samsonov has been as average as it gets this year for starters.. Historically, basically at Freddy level and Fred always got Vezina hype. I get that Sammy doesn't have the track record but I'm surprised they've strayed from the "Leafs are only good because of their goalie" narrative. Not to mention their "backup" is a multi cup winning meth addict who is putting up some of the best numbers for a backup in the NHL this year. And they need to add another body to that pile, why? If you're not getting Saros or Sorokin, what's the point?

Woll has played as well as any #3 we've had in ages. The best thing about young goalies getting their break in the NHL, is that other teams haven't figured them out yet.

The skill guys made too much coin during their careers to bother with answering questions from Steve Simmons after a tough loss for 2 millie with no job security

These media jocks literally get paid to solve hypothetical problems. They will get tarred as being lazy cheerleaders if they say “this team is elite, almost no weaknesses, there’s a reason Vegas gives them pretty good odds to win it all. So my advice is to relax, spend more time talking to your family, and simply tune in at puck drop to enjoy one of the most talented squads in franchise history”

I really liked Carlo when he played for us. Makes me sad that he's such a fucking idiot.
I called him dime a dozen when we traded him. Even if just for his injuries, he was worthless to me. Very similar to how I feel about Robertson now.

I was crushed that they dealt Steen though. Very similar to how I feel about Sandin now.

I don't think you've ever appreciated how much noise someone would have to tune out to do that.

Need to stay off of twitter or just not follow hockey on it at all. FB same, and can't talk to friends, listen to the radio, watch TSN or Sportsnet to kill time basically ever.

The entire communal aspect of being a sports fan is unavailable to Leaf fans in this scenario.

You can watch them, but fuck you if you want to follow them.

Antropov is an example of the guy the organization ruined, IMO. If he’d been developed properly, I don’t think it was written in stone that he’d be so injury prone.

But Carlo was 100% inherently made of glass.

And zeke called it earlier this year when he quipped to Carlo on Twitter that he’s just jealous/bitter towards Lilly because he’s everything we hoped Carlo would be for us.

ForumIce is a safe space. So is the Athletic for the most part. That’s the extent of my hockey bandwidth — and it’s probably still too much!

Those LOF style FOFs ain’t gonna eat themselves

Dunno man. He played on a torn up knee because we were chasing 8th and made it worse to the point of needing microfracture surgery because the cartilage damage was that severe.

He may have been injury prone/reckless but we were more than happy to push him to the breaking point
