The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Cam's tweet says those are all 5v5 #'s.

I don't know, Kerfoot certainly is a weird player. and shooting % not his only issue. But he has become the forum's whipping boy and while it is probably somewhat deserved based on eye test, advanced stats tend to disagree with this assessment for the most part.

Not his shooting percentage. 5on5 on-ice s%. Just saying it was unusually high last year and helped along his outlier counting stats. And this year it's the opposite. He's somewhere in between this year and last, that's all. He's not a 50 point guy and he's probably better than a 30 point guy.

And for me the issue is that at 3.5m bucks he's the core player of their depth. In a perfect world that 3.5m dollar player provides excess value above and beyond and ideally is a line DRIVER or player who provides legit secondary goal scoring (he has never been one to score much and has consistently struggled to drive a line in a meaningful way). May be a lot to ask, but with their cap structure it's what they need out of a forward who makes 3.5.

If you're picking one guy to make a real paycheck in the bottom 6, it needs to be a nerdies stud 3C.
Nino would have been fine for me. Extra 500k for some jam and a guy who can pump an extra 10-12 goals per year compared to Kerf. Similar-ish caliber player but the goal scoring physical type as opposed to the soft perimeter playmaker. If you're trying to get tougher or give your depth a different look in the playoffs, a swap like this would have been a good place to start I think.

Yeah I mean you can have the best nerdies in the world but if you’re a guy who throws blind drop passes at his own blue line in a tied game 6 to the other team, the nerdies aren’t telling you everything about the player.

Bailing on McCabe in the shutty pair I guess. 38% xgf% thus far as a leaf. May be wise to get him some easier minutes.

According to the Athletic, Reilly/Brodie rank 21st in the league in goal differential/60 among top pairings.
Barely positive at 0.07

Just behind the Habs pairing of Mike Matheson/ David Savard.

It's not a good pairing for sure. I can see why they wanted a Muzzin. Unfortunately I don't think McCabe looks to be that player, though it's early.

They may have to just hold their noses and go Gio-Brodie for the playoffs if they're determined to go heavy on a matchup pair.

Yeah.

I think the question will come down to whether they want a matchup pair or to shield Mo. because the only way to shield rielly is to play him with brodie, but that’s also your matchup guy.

I did notice that they had Lilly on for some tough dzone face offs last night. Bodes wel for him staying in (especially after getting walked on his first shift of the game).
