The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Natural Stat Trick says 57.94 at 5 on 5.

We let in 3 goals on the first 7 shots.

but man were those golden chances we let up.

(deservedly) falling behind and then moderately outplaying a team that has fallen apart like the Wings have doesn't make me feel great.

I get the criticism around Lafferty/Engvall/Schenn but quite frankly, I think he was almost there.

If the adds were McCabe, ROR, Acciari and he just picked up one more decent forward after that I think the vibes around here would be different. People are allowed to be upset about that obviously but everything up to that three trade day was fine, IMO.

absolutely.

what makes it sting extra though is that its not just that doing nothing on the actual deadline day would probably have been better, but that they had a legit opportunity to trade for ANOTHER legit quality forward (like at least a quality middle six guy if not better) and seemed set up perfectly to do just that.

heck, even do all those deadline moves but make the return for Sandin and Engvall an actual good forward instead of picks and Gus.

Thanks. Nothing of interest to me then.

Here is a stat request for you to check out.

All things considered, is it better for the Leaf to have or not have home ice advantage for the Tampa series?
Factoring in, our goalies road records, and how good a team we are on the road vs home.
Is it better for the heartbreak to happen out of town? Maybe.

yeah, part of what hurts so much and is so upsetting is that, from this guy's perspective, the Doobie-man was like 95% of the way to having a hugely successful trade deadline, consistent with the team building vision we've all embraced. then, at the last minute, he scored like a dozen own goals and undid all the previous good work.

and again, this is coming from a guy who was not initially a fan of acquiring ROR (or McCabe for that matter). however, had they stopped after the McCabe deal, I would be fine.

it's the apparent abandonment of the focus on skill and instead filling our roster with a bunch of plugs whose only redeeming attribute is the media's perception of their grit where we lost the plot. and then the dominoes fall from there.

and the early results speak for themselves and are shit.

I'm not getting your point here.
pretty much everyone on this forum highly values the nerdies in general and subscribe to the phrase that "your eyes are lying sons of bitches".

this will become clear in our discussions on player evaluation, team building, etc.

if you plan to ignore all statistics when making arguments about players, team building, etc., I think you will quickly find you do not enjoy the collective response

Thanks.

Yes, I see that stats and such play a big part in discussions here. I just don't get involved in that stuff and don't argue with those who do because I would be unarmed. That part of the game simply doesn't interest me, same as all the contract, salary, etc. stuff.

I just want to see the games and enjoy them.

Probably should have explained that in the previous post.

Boston adding Bertuzzi and Hathaway at the end there was the extra kick in the nuts. They were already ahead of us (but not that far ahead) and then at the last second they take another solid step forward and we take a step back.

Thanks.

but surely you enjoy games less when we get ouplayed and more when we do the outplaying, even if we the leafs may win the former or lose the latter occasionally.

For sure. I just have no interest in all the number crunching analysis that gets quite involved. I just skim through those posts or stories until something catches my interest.

No problem, there's plenty here to entertain me.

it's funny cuz I remember as a kid every old school talking head talking about shots and shot quality every game. but now they pretend it never happened.
