The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

It seems like we can never get a happy medium with these two guys.

Under Babcock, Matthews & Marner were never allowed to be on the same line ever.

Under Keefe, Matthews & Marner are never allowed to be split up onto separate lines, ever.

And it's possible they aren't leaders.

I mean, Matthews leads the known universe in game winning goals over the last 4-5 years, doesn't he? What's more leader-y than that? Also has 4 game winning goals over his last 19 playoff games for those who pretend to not care about the regular season.

We've seen what "leaders" look like. Remember Nick Foligno?

Never will buy into leaderbeans
I think your best players need to be more than just hockey players I don't think you can avoid it the best players are the ones that the other guys look to that's just the way it is so if they are not the type to motivate other players that can be a problem... Or if for example one of them is a whiny b****... I'm not even saying that's true I'm just saying if it was and that's one of your best players that's a problem.

The whole leadership thing is always a post facto argument. Always. Kadri was widely considered to be a guy you couldn't win with, until he won and now he's a leader. Remember when Crosby & Malkin won and then didn't win for a long time and people questioned them until the alleged ultimate anti leader became the key to them winning two more? Now the media catches amnesia whenever the subject of Phil Kessel's treatment in Toronto comes up?

It's all made up narrative bullshit after the fact.

I hate the "Leadership" narrative. Look at the most acclaimed "Leaders" we've seen in years in the NHL with the Hawks.
Even Messier got knocked for bad leadership once he took the $ to sign in Vancouver.

If you want to get a rep as a "Grity" playoff warrior, leave the Leafs and go to another team. Brown and Mikheyev are getting so much acclaim today as guys who you need in the playoffs.
I get the frustration, but come up with stuff that makes sense.

If you grew up with Ballard you have to have a differnet perception. We are so lucky to have this talent. if anything, it makes things even more frustrating that we haven't won anything. But this idea of dumping stars over emotion is so stupid.
