The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Tampa Leafs Colorado all look thoroughly mediocre though I think leafs have had the easiest schedule of the 3. So no excuse for their nerdies to be where they are. Panthers and Canes have been good but unlucky.

But we said the same last year at this time and they went on to have their best season of my lifetime.

all situations xgf% according to naturalstattrick

3 NYR 56.7
4 FLA 56.4
6 CAR 55.7

13 MIN 50.8
17 COL 49.0
19 TBL 48.4

The flaws that are seen during a rough patch are the same as the invincibility seen during hot streaks... the only difference is you can try and address the issues of a rough patch.

Bottom 6 currently isn't good enough and we need another top 4 D.

Don't love all situation stats at this stage. Leafs have had 8 more pp minutes than pk minutes. Colorado has been shorthanded for 13 more minutes than on the pp. That's gonna skew the numbers bigly.

Tampa has been shit tho.

5 on 5 natstat has all three at around the same mediocre nerdies this year. Think folks are easier on the other two because they have these things called Stanley Cup rings. When the leafs win a round maybe things will ease up!

I’m still hoping that the Leafs can win the division so it really frickin hurts throwing these points against teams that are/should be terrible.

15th in 5v5 though, so mediocre like we’re pretty much all saying.

tbh a couple of games ago i'm pretty sure they screwed up the score tracking pretty badly there were some wacko EV/special teams splits that didn't make sense.

but besides that, you can't ignore what they've done in overall expected goals anyways. special teams did happen and are part of any determination of whether they've been "lucky" or not.

Yeah the other bit is their schedule has been really fucking easy. Let's not pretend they've been anything but poor to average. Doesn't mean we give up and don't believe they can recover. But I'm good with acknowledging that they've started horribly. I've got high standards.

all the numbers there are "mediocre" of course.

but it ain't just the leafs, despite the hullabaloo.
