The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Lol @ the media.

The man has a goal or two and suddenly we need to talk contracts and how it will cost too much.

Mikhehev is a good but second tier player. Dubas has consistently found those guys on the cheap. No need to worry about his contract in the middle of a potentially historic season.

Lets just enjoy the wins.

I kind of feel sorry for them. They were probably all geared up with Rielly contract Armageddon stories, and now with him re-signing early in the season, this kind of content is what they’re reduced to.

And yeah, Mikheyev is almost certainly going to walk. Even if he hadn’t already demanded a trade, the obvious outcome when the Leafs signed him to his current deal was always that he’d either go home to the KHL if he failed in the NHL, or go to another NHL team for the biggest payday possible if he turned out to be a real player.

And then the Leafs will go in search of other cheap options to replace him. Rinse and repeat.

Shit this is great discussion fodder. I think he is potentially worth a lot more than what he will receive. I hope they keep him but he doesn't seem particularly happy in Toronto so he's probably gonna look for a big payday wherever he can get it.

My hunch says he's a goner. But I am NOT happy about it.
Nah, he took less money last time because he’s a good guy and wants to stay. He’s not getting $4m or something on the open market. He’ll get a reasonable third line salary and we’ll be the ones paying it.

Disagree on mikky.

And surprised the media isn’t more focused on Jack. That’s the guy we can’t afford to lose.

Yep. I absolutely think everyone needs to get used to lots of turnover with these types of guys.

You sign em cheap, ideally they play well for you and when they outprice themselves, you move on. Or they don't play well and you move on.

Bunting will outprice himself too when his deal's done.

They had plenty of Jack contract stories earlier. maybe people got tired of it Kypreos brought it up last week when he had Jack on his show.

I always fall for these bargain guys that Dubas finds, but we have to accept that there is no middle class on this team and there never will be. Mik at a middle class salary is suddenly a lot less likable than when he's on the cheap. Or Bunting at 900k vs $5-6m. On to the next one, but it's hard for me to handle emotionally.

Not sure they're getting the reaction they used to get from these contracts stories anymore.

Fans have finally learned.

It's mostly that fans have learned that it doesn't matter and that Dubas will simply find another steal to replace them. All of the panic about Hyman and Dubas replaced him with a better player for 900k.

One or two of the Dubas LW draft steals will ideally be ready when Bunting expires.

People still think you need tons of cap for 'balance" and spend a lot on bottom 6 talent. I don't get it, but it hasn't gone away in terms of that thinking.
The Oilers hype in the summer was hilarious. I think I mentioned I heard a John Shannon statement about how cap was (Suddenly for the Oilers sake) "overrated" and Duncan Keith would bring amazing leadership. Of all people to call a great leader...

Remember, this is a dude from the middle of bumfuck nowhere in Russia who’s going to be turning 28 years old before next season. If he can have a strong offensive season the rest of the way headed into free agency, this might be his last big chance to secure his financial future.

Also worth remembering that not even the Toronto kid from a rich as fuck family took a discount to stay here, so I’m not sure why Mikheyev would.

Also not sure why the Leafs would want to lock themselves into any bottom-6/middle-6 guys anyway. Keep turning them over.

You wouldn’t pay $2m or $2.25m for mikky? Because that’s what he’ll get.
I don't think he gets less than Ritchie. Depends on how he finishes the year I guess. I'm pretty bullish on how he finishes off personally.

This is likely going to be his last chance to get paid and he is going to milk teams for all he's worth. If I'm Dubas I'm not excited about getting in a bidding war for this guy. Leave that to the Oilers or Canucks.

Exactly.

Except for mizzi.

That’s just it, I do t foresee him getting substantially bigger offers.

It's hilarious hearing fans of other teams talking about the Leafs great depth this year.
