The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Sure if he has skill that's fine but you can't have two Rielly's in the top 4. I don't think you can handle the defensive hit your team would take. Guy has gotta be a solid all-around guy as well. I'm not sure if Klingberg can be that guy but I haven't looked into him much.
I didn't say anything about two Riellys. but the collective offensive talent of Muzzin, Brodie and Holl is probably not ideal when you look at the high-octane forwards they play with that drive the offence. replacing one of them with a more 2 way player is a clear upgrade in my book...especially if that player can shoot it from the point.

however with the limited cap we have there's probably only one move of any significance for this year, so I would pursue a scoring winger and hope that Sandin can develop into that guy on the backline.

Would be looking at getting a replacement for Holl, getting a #3C that can also play LW, flip Dermott to #7 and give Lilli a run, and a #13 forward that can play Center.

Open to moving Kerfoot if salary space is needed and Muzzin if we find an upgrade with term.

I like our D, but I am also jealous of the skill on Colorado's D with Makar, Byram, Girard and Toews.

I'm not sure about Klingberg, but if you can get another skilled offensive dman to go with Rielly and Sandin to pair with Muzz/Brodie/Lilly I wouldn't complain.

Yeah, the sample size was really small that's fair. I just figured with how much GMs like to wax poetically about intangibles, here's a guy available for peanuts who plays a chippy, competitive game, draws penalties, had ridiculous nerdies, scores goals... seems like the most obvious value signing any team could make. Edmonton, where were you at?
I feel like the same folks who value truculence and intangibles would actually be deterred by all the nerd love Bunting got. If that makes sense...

Fun to watch and I'm jealous too, but when they play real teams (i.e. Eastern conference teams) they often struggle defensively. Curious to see if they can win with a d corps like that, although some of their guys can play at a high level at both ends.

Leafs are at about middle of the pack in the NHL defensively so if they bring in skill, he better bring the goods defensively too. Same concept if they get a winger.

Yeah it would have to be someone that can play at both ends. Thats why I'm not so high on Klingberg. Chychryun is interesting.

Bunting’s career progression is also unorthodox as hell. 26 year-old with generally “ok, just ok” AHL scoring numbers, and barely any NHL games to his credit.

And while he put up good numbers in 21 games for the Coyotes last year, he wouldn’t be the first rando to fluke a good scoring run towards the end of the season on a bad team that’s out of it.

So, I understand there not being much interest in him. I didn’t see any harm on taking a flier on him, personally, but I didn’t have a whole lot of hope he’d actually pan out as much more than a greasy 4th liner.

Last year was probably just an outlier though

Yup and he played on a pretty pretty good line with a very unsustainable shooting percentage. Plenty of reasons to not fall in love with him, plenty of reasons to be willing to take a flyer on him.

Yeah for all the talk of moving Muzzin.. Maybe just maybe you consider doing it next year if this guy is capable of being "that" guy. But for this playoff run it sure would be nice to have both of those players.

Of course, as you say, he could also suck. Playing on Arizona is making it difficult to get a read on his current season.

Looking back, quite a few people had him penciled in on the first or second line right when we signed him, Jack Burton said he thought it could be the steal of the offseason, Habsy came over to say he thought it was a smart signing. So credit to FI I guess?

I'm pretty sure I was a lot more skeptical BUT I definitely had him above Nick Ritchie! It was mostly that the Leafs didn't have any other LW depth. He signed in Toronto (and took less money than he was offered elsewhere) BECAUSE he saw the opening in the lineup + maybe a bit of hometown thing going on too. I mean there was always a pretty good chance he would play with Tavares or Matthews. 2 years of boosted stats and then a nice big juicy payday when he's a UFA. Smart guy, that Bunting.
