The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Kampf is actually providing positive value this year, he is just projected to provided negative value over the entire year based on his history.

That makes sense, I was skeptical of the signing but have no problems at all with how he's looked this year.

I'm pretty sure I was a lot more skeptical BUT I definitely had him above Nick Ritchie! It was mostly that the Leafs didn't have any other LW depth. He signed in Toronto (and took less money than he was offered elsewhere) BECAUSE he saw the opening in the lineup + maybe a bit of hometown thing going on too. I mean there was always a pretty good chance he would play with Tavares or Matthews. 2 years of boosted stats and then a nice big juicy payday when he's a UFA. Smart guy, that Bunting.

Fair and just to be clear, definitely not saying he should've gotten any sort of big payday but it seems like everything was screaming *this is a great value add* so it's a little surprising there wasn't a bit more interest. I'd be curious to see what other offers he got.

Kampf's analytical impact isn't anything impressive and on his own doesn't do anything special for the team. But eating up tough minutes at center at a replacement level is actually great for us and a big improvement over last year. Kerfoot got destroyed in that role last year. It also allowed Kerfoot to move to the wing on a scoring line where he was been a legit top 6 producer.

I'm not sure how much more he was offered or how many teams were in on him, but he claims he took a cut to join the Leafs.

And I think a big part was seeing where he fit in. He had to battle with guys like Kerfoot, Ritchie, Mikhayev, etc. to get the honor of playing with Matthews or Tavares. Sets him up nicely for next contract so I could see why it would be enticing on top of the "hometown" thing.

Yup and he played on a pretty pretty good line with a very unsustainable shooting percentage. Plenty of reasons to not fall in love with him, plenty of reasons to be willing to take a flyer on him.

...but very sustainablle on-ice shooting percentage.

Would still love to see us upgrade the 3c spot. Can Pavelksi still play C?
I would usually have agreed with this except that when healthy our bottom 6 is still filled with offensive talent other than Kampf (even Simmonds is a good offensive 4th liner).

BUT, if we keep using both Ritchie and Clifford as our fill ins when we run into injuries then suddenly our bottom 6 can look a bit fugly. Really wish Little Nicky was playing already.

well he does do something special - look at his defensive rating on that card, and then consider that he gets the most extreme defensive zone usage of any center in hockey.

Robertson, Ho-Sang, Steeves all way better than Ritchie and Clifford

less money to get another year of term maybe. I seriously doubt he had another multiyear offer on the table for more money.

Games in Arizona should really be played at 7pm Eastern Standard Time. It’s not like anyone local’s going to be watching the game anyway.
