Once we can finally get rid of some of the truly welfare teams (Zona to Houston, etc), it might be possible to add a dollar for dollar luxury tax or at the least a different way of calculating the cap that allows additional cap flexibility. Because yeah, this system that incentivizes this type of fuckery is kind of dumb. It's bad for fringe/young players as they are liable to spend a lot of the season "with" the NHL club but being paid their AHL salary because they've been paper shuffled to the AHL club to save a couple of bucks on the cap.
 
Actually maybe not - he only had 34 in year two so the best round number streak he could have is 30gl seasons....which he's a shoo-in to get to as well.

But he would've broken Vaive's 54 goal season record.

And he was on pace for 60 last year and 60 this year and looks like not even Ovechkin has back to back 60 goal seasons.
 
think they said he's got 18 in his last 16 games. crazy stuff. and yes, it sucks that covid is happening right smack in McDavid/Matthews/etc statistical prime seasons. actually sucks for Ovy as well, honestly.
