Going to be interesting to see how this plays out, because as of now, Friedman & Mirtle are both reporting that the Leafs are operating under the assumption that Muzzin will be back before the playoffs and his LTIR space won't be available for deadline additions.

That seems so dumb that I can't possibly see how it's true, but we'll see.

Dubas is just bullshitting everyone and Friedman bought it. At this point MUzzin cannot be ready until about 2-3 weeks before the playoffs best case scenario. So easy to hold him back. It makes too much sense.

Even if he’s back before the playoffs, don’t we accrue for all the weeks in between? Why are they talking like it’s all or nothing, that if he’s back early suddenly we’ve accrued nothing?

You only accrue deadline cap space if you're operating below the cap limit and aren't using LTIR.

Considering the Hart is voted on by hockey writers, I’m fully expecting at least a few piss-baby, Toronto-hating writers from other Canadian markets to do something childish like leave Matthews completely off their Hart ballot.

Or if the Oil miss the playoffs and the “no Hart without playoffs” rule kicks in, do something dumb like give it to Huberdeau instead.
