Is the thrown puppy okay?
what actually makes the most sense to me, is if the time in toronto did take such a toll on dubas' family (fair) that they collectively decided they'd only stay if the leafs really made it worth it financially by making him basically a president and giving him unprecedented money as a GM (sure, okay fair)
because if shanahan truly meddled so much that kyle felt he couldn't do his job, yet kyle told shanny he wanted to stay anyway and had his agent present financial packages twice, that doesn't make him look very good.
Agreed but the Mirtle article is literally saying that the belief was that Shanahan's meddling prevented them from advancing.I could see some variation of this being plausible.
There’s a range of possible outcomes between complete autonomy, and “meddling to the point he couldn’t do his job”.
…and the fact he did want to return, points to that.

The only thing that shook him was Dubas saying he wasn't sure he wanted to come back
and he did not attempt to do so until it was too late.
I don't see how literally blocking and forcing multiple major moves doesnt fall on the far end of that range.
we all agree it's a shitty line because it's too vague and editorializing or whatever. it doesn't mean we have to throw out the entire concept of journalism.View attachment 16541
Ehhhh....that's fucking hacky to include in your story. These people love the chaos, it is literally why they exist.

and a blocked trade could literally be anything. maybe kyle was looking at a trade for Erik Karlsson, and Shanny vetoed it based on the enormous long-term ramifications of the contract. which really would be a logical stance for both sides.
I dont think the reporting says he blocked, and forced multiple major moves.
edit: the wording in the article is multiple moves over several seasons.
"On Friday, more details emerged on that front. Multiple sources close to the team said that Shanahan had blocked transactions that Dubas wanted to make at key points in the past several seasons, creating frustration in parts of the management group. Shanahan had also at times dictated certain moves he wanted made that Dubas didn’t agree with.
The president, as per his place in the hierarchy, typically won out in those battles. And, in some cases, the moves that weren’t made could have improved the Leafs’ ability to advance further in the playoffs."
i did…it’s doesn’t say multiple major moves,
