The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Shannys criteria was that he isn’t ruling anyone out, is keeping an open mind, but experience is an asset.

Friedman ran with that with they will get a GM with bite that already has a job. Now he is just disproving rumours he created.

this is a media shit show. Have to take everything with a grain of salt and let it play out.

Friedman apparently also claims there that it was the board forcing shanahan to fire him, which kinda contradicts his claim about people not wanting to work under shanahan, which doesnt make sense anyways.

He's really trying to hit every level of conspiracy here.

There’s this interesting part of the Shanny presser that seems to have gone unnoticed.

When he says that he started thinking about what the team would look like under different management after he saw the Dubas presser, he actually said something like, he then started on the process of looking for a replacement. Not just that he started thinking about it, but that he took preliminary steps.

I think that whoever the first person who popped up in his mind as a replacement is, Shanny already reached out to and started a convo before pulling the plug on Kyle. And I think that idea is probably a factor in letting Kyle go. So as is typical with this organization, I think he’s already been in talks for a week or so but no one in the media has any clue.

You guys are stuck arguing extremes between Shanny was a micro manager and Shanny was a heavenly and 100% sympatico boss — so no different than Mirtle’s hyperbolic interpretation

I view it as way more nuanced — relationships evolve over time and things get frayed when the same disappointments keep repeating.

I’m on “Team Shanahan had a say” not in working the phones or picking out players from around the league but in stating general things like “it’d be nice to have a third pairing D that plays like xxxxx” or “is there a way we can get a first rounder back? Our scouts are drooling at some of those prospects that will be available down there” .

Shanahan might have thought they had a good working relationship despite the occasional disputes (par for the course) and was taken aback when Dubas expressed doubt about continuing in the status quo

It is simple. Dubas either dropped the ball or deliberately threw it during his presser.

If he takes the Pens job, we will know what the intent was.
