The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

They have: BOS 1st, 5th, 6th

Might be kinda hard to identify a trend there but we shall see. Maybe they'll trade it down.

I still come back to - if a guy I'm about to extend can't answer in public "Yes, I want to be here and yes, I have it in me to do the job", then I am not extending him.

And if he wasn't ready to say that, perhaps he shouldn't have done the presser.

Yeah, it makes no sense—there was no hurry for Dubas to get up in front of the media.

If you have to take time to consider where you want to go from here and have discussions with your family, that’s 100% fine. He had the time—there was no deadline for him to have an end of season presser, and no moves needed to be made until after the playoffs were concluded.

I even had no problem with having a year end presser but if there were reservations about an extension then tow the line and pause the discussion on the subject until you can figure shit out.

Instead you open your mouth on a discussion that should have been kept behind closed doors until a decision could have been made one way or another and blind sided your boss by giving the media a major talking point

I'm guessing he thought he was in the clear until CJ asked him that very pointed "Do you want to be here and do you still have it in you?" question - that's when it sorta went south.

But the President has an obligation to make sure the GM he's extending is totally committed - it's reasonable for him to have been shaken by that "uh, um, i can't say, my family" answer.

I was sure he was coming back until then and then posted on Tuesday that based on his answers I was open to moving on - and I didn;t even know he had a contract offer in hand. Why wouldn't Shanahan walk away feeling that too?

Mirtle says management thinks trading a core player would be beneficial

CJ says Shahanan phoned the core 4 after firing Dubas to reassure them they'd be staying

He speaks.

I find it noteworthy that the statement was signed "The Dubas Family". Lends credence to the Habsy theory (which I support).

"Reasonable and consistent but private". Very interesting choice of words. But yeah, sounds like Shanny's version is largely accurate.

Now the two key missing pieces of info we may never know are: 1) why the sudden press conference about face; and 2) what were the 'additional' demands that skewered the entire negotiation...

and, in case there's any doubt, for the many folks who have said that Dubie's presser gave Shanny the impetus to can him, no disagreements here either. if the guy cannot say he's all in right before signing a massive new extension, and you're surprised to hear this, and you hear it via the press, makes total sense to force you to reconsider whether this is the guy you want running the ship.

Dubas isnt going to get into a tit for tat in the media over that on the way out, he’s already canned…..but if it’s inaccurate, I’m sure we’ll find out over time.
Ya. If you want to get hired into one of 31 jobs you don't go back n forth in the media about the previous employer. At least not until you have another job. Probably learned a lesson about being a bit to honest.

If dubas goes to the pens half the press conference will be about the leafs exit... And dubas will still probably focus on the pens and not answer questions directly about the exit.

yeah, this is a really good point. why the fuck did he insist on holding a press conference? especially if it was for him to publicly declare his uncertainty about proceeding.

to go further down Habsy's rabbit hole here, the only thing remotely logical I can come up with right now is that Mrs. Dubas demanded the press conference OR it was an attempt to placate her. obviously a lot of assumptions doing some work here.

and for further clarity, I hold no ill will or antipathy towards Mrs. Dubas no matter what facts ultimately emerge.

Especially if they spent the last few months working on a new deal. People can say he (Shanny) had a emotional knee jerk reaction but that is a lot of leg work to go through to prepare for only for Dubas to come back at the 25th hour and say you know what I am second guessing things and then go tell the world

If the timeline of details is true he embarrassed the guy who went to bat for him to stay
