The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I guess the more fun question is - what are the top-5 Dubas moves?

1. Brodie signing
2. Bunting signing
3. Muzzin trade
4. O'Reilly trade
5. Giordano trade

Does that look right?

Not sure any of those qualify as home runs.
Engineering his way out of Toronto while leaving a steaming pile in the corner of his office is #1.

And no way he could have done it without tampering

Yeah, not even close to home runs really

Brodie - Market rate UFA signing
Bunting - Thank fuck he's from Scarborough and not Burnaby
Muzzin - Market rate trade
ROR - Ditto
Gio - Somewhat of an overpay for a good (but ancient) top 4 defender

Pittsburgh might be more like Sault Ste Marie than any other NHL city.

Steel industry, on a big river, profoundly depressing…

He kept his top guys, made it all work under the cap and iced a damn good team - and deserves full marks for that.

but once they were roped in on the 40 mill they needed draft picks to fill
The talent gap down lineup and hasn’t fared well at that.

goaltending was a bigtime miss.

Did a good job building the d.

oversll dubie did wel but - yeah - no HR.

being behind the Hyman trade.

If he wants to make bank, net more, and have a peaceful home life? There are far worse places.

Maybe he’ll report directly to the ownership, who’ll say “do you whatever you want to get us back into the playoffs while keeping Sid, Geno and Letang”

Brodie was an elite move. Analytic driven, top of the lineup, great value. But thats it really.

He's been shockingly average overall, despite the general opinion of him by everyone, including us.

But I guess tahts the reason he took over a 100 point, 3 playoff win team and left us with a 100 point 6* win playoff team.

Honestly the Mrazek trade was a huge win.

Mrazek signing otoh

That's the problem with viewing the trade in a vacuum. The trade looks like a win. The entire episode is a pretty ugly loss.

- Massive opportunity cost by spending 3.8 million on a brutal goalie when that cap could have been spent on an actual good goalie (heaven forbid, one better than Average Jack...)

- Draft capital goes out the door to fix the mistake 12 months later, when we're already a club struggling to generate young and cheap bodies that can fill spots on the NHL club.

If he signs Kerfoot, this forum is set for comedy material for the next decade. That's all I want.
I think it's fairly obvious he's going to make a play for "his" guys. Holl and Kerf likely at the top.

And I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to coax the big guys to hold out till free agency.

We'll see how much Matty gives a shit about who his GM is soon enough.
