The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Did we ever figure out what "heavy shifts" were?
It was a method to communicate nerd shit to Babcock without him rolling his eyes and ignoring the data. Speak Babcockian and he'll start listening.

Communicating these things to coaches/GMs effectively is 90% of the job for the nerds in these organizations. The last thing you want to do is get too technical because that's when the hockey guys zone you out.

In cities where they have hockey teams that engage and seek out contact rather than studiously avoid it, "heavy shifts" are shifts where your team dominates the other physically and spends a lot of time in the offensive zone because of it.

glad you said this….cause these former employees who leave then complain that they had all the answers and no one would listen, kinda make me roll my eyes. It’s part of your job to make them listen/understand…(just so happens these guys also then ‘chose’ to go into media, versus being offered amazing gigs elsewhere for their hockey genius /s)

Like the Calgary guys who made Treliving his ELI5 single digit metric, so he could wrap his head around it…😇

Running tab:

- regular season success [doesnt count]
- any Keefe success [doesnt count]
- beating a dynasty [doesnt count]
- playoff wins in OT [doesnt count]
- trading for Hyman [doesnt count]
- bad Treliving signings [doesnt count; cause Calgary]
- Treliving’s Tkachuk trade [doesnt really count]
- bad Treliving extensions [doesnt count]
- drafting Knies [doesnt count, took too long]
- signing Bunting for top 6 [doesnt meet mbow criteria]
PP goals don't count

I kinda feel like the process was pretty good initially and Dubas leaned further away from it in direct response to more losing in the playoffs.
Yep. His choice seemed to be mess with the core or try something different with the rest.

The truth us that there's very little Treliving can do to hurt the team significantly short term other than make a bad trade of one of our core.

the process was flawed.

the only way to explain that away is to pretend like they are the unluckiest group of people ever. lWhich is rich coming from the guy keeping a list of explaining things away. you are the same as everyone you are arguing with, just with your own bias.

The other option unfortunately is that somehow we came upon the chokiest bunch of elite talent ever. Which might be true, though also seems pretty damn unlucky if so.
