The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

So at this point, I’m definitely all-in on believing that:

  1. Everything Shanahan laid out in his presser about how things went down with Dubas was 100% true.

  2. Fenway Group has probably been in back-channel talks with Dubas since at least mid-season.

  3. Dubas’s press conference was a cynical attempt to leverage the Pittsburgh job, which he knew he had in his back pocket, into more money and a promotion to President of hockey Operations in Toronto.

It was always easy to just believe both shanahan and dubas were telling the truth, given that they didn't disagree at all.

One wrinkle i'll add though is that a month ago Treliving did refuse a contract extension from the Flames, which is strange.

Doesn't feel the need to "make a statement".

Doens't feelt he need to "throw a body under the tarmac".

Doesn't want to make "change for change's sake".

Feels "lucky" to "have this talent".

Wants to "protect" his talent.

but.....of course, "we will look at all things".

Honestly, this is a pretty solid job he’s doing with this presser. He did stop short of shutting down moving one of the core four. “We’ll look at everything.”…but whatever, he’s intimated he’ll keep em, I’d say.

Glad he recognizes how well set up we already are.

Tre is a veteran and he was further media trained by Leaf comm gurus yesterday, so expect no waves

Shanny correctly read that Dubas wasn’t really committed to being here, because he wasn’t IMO.

You’d have to think he was quite the piece of shit to create this family drama story, put on the water works, etc…all to leverage the Leafs into matching the Pitt offer. imo.

"every team has it's unique circumstances"

I'm taking that to mean "nobody wanted to play in calgary".
