The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I just recall 1995 finally watching the Steelers in a Super Bowl. Being ecstatic at the game then distraught over two identical pick 6s that ended up being the demise of all hope. The road to the big game was awesome. Losing on the biggest stage sucked big path Moose cock. Same with losing to GB. So close it feels you can reach out and touch it. Then Bupkiss. I do understand the window closing feeling though. That being said, we as fans have no idea how things are going to unfold. The fun in debating it and discussing possibilities is what makes this worthwhile regardless of outcomes in my humble opinion. You know. The friends we made along the way. 🙈😜😂
I was fortunate to enjoy all of the Steelers championships in the 70's. Beating the Cowboys was sweet, especially when Jack Lambert would ragdoll one of them.

I'm thankful Tree doesn't seem like a guy who needs to pimp himself in the media like Dubas and Burke do. As far as keeping the core 3 intact we'll see, there's no reason to come out and say we're going to make a big move since he'd have no idea what teams would offer in return.

The key is getting JT to waive and moving him without retention or anchors coming back, it won't be easy but at least he's isn't owed in actual salary after his bonus is paid which will help.

not those of us that believe in process over small sample playoff results.

I’ll be over the moon if he can even keep par with Dubas.
A 5 year sample isn't small. It's not even a sample; at that point it's a trend. It's essentially what you team is or has become. Waiting another year hoping it will be different just kicks the can down the road. You need to change course.

For the first pick. Maybe. For the other two I doubt the GM has much specific input anyway.

even then, any monkey can pick the BPA on their internal draft board

the biggest thing would be if an interesting trade down for more picks opportunity presents itself… then a quick txt to Tre would ensue

your opinion. I disagree.

#5, #2, #3, #5 in xGF% ~4 straight seasons, and a league leading 7 straight playoff appearances without any signs of it stopping soon….is the exact kind of process I believe in.

(and just to be clear, I’m not saying anyone else needs to accept that….that’s just the kind of thing I’d prioritize over purely playoff outcomes, which as we know I dont value as highly as everyone else in the first place.)

nah, just recognize the actual poor luck they’d had.

(they lost some series on their own…and lost a number of coin flip series against elite teams [bad luck to be in our division]…and handful of times. Tavares game 1 injury… Got goalied by Florida…despite playing good enough to be up 3-1….shit happens.)

a coin flip is 50/50 probability…..having a handful go the same way back to back to back is gonna happen. (especially if it’s weighted, thanks to division/playoff format)

#whoooosh
If you value processes above outcomes then it's no wonder you're a Dubas fan. But here's the thing: outcomes are literally the only stat that matters in pro sports. GM's that don't produce favorable outcomes lose their jobs, as they should. In pro sports you get paid to actually do things, not merely to try to do things.

Zero sum. Win lose. Succeed or fail.

Just cuz Dubas will likely be interested in some Toronto assets, here's the Pens right now:

Guentzel 29, $6.0 x1 to 29 --- Crosby 36, $8.7 x2 to 37 --- Rust 31, $5.1 x5 to 35
Rakell 30, $5.0 x 5 to 34 --- Malkin 37, $6.1 x3 to 39 --- Granlund 31, $5.0 x2 to 32
Carter 38, $3.1 x1 to 38

Pettersson 27, $4.0 x2 to 28 --- Letang 36, $6.1 x5 to 40
Rutta 33, $2.8 x2 to 34 --- Petry 36, $6.3 x2 to 37

DeSmith 32, $1.8 x1 to 32

and then some borderline 24-25yr old guys who are either RFA or one year away like O'Connor, Nylander, Poehling, Joseph.
