The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

This guy was seriously dropped on his head as a child. Yes the Leafs with players 25 years or younger are comparable to the Penguins.

no problem with that. this market is fucking rough.
Any market that can not win a Cup for 56 years and still sell out every game at the highest ticket prices in all Christendom isn't that rough.

Pittsburgh, even with all its success over the last 35 years, is always 2 bad seasons away from going bankrupt. It needs to sell tickets. It needs to actually win things to keep fans coming to the games. "Processes" don't achieve this.

That's a rough market.

Fans don't give a shit about anything else. You either hang a banner or your team is shit. Sure, there's a "process" but if, after 5 years with the same pieces your results don't change then your process is shit along with your team. At that point things must change. Expecting the same players and process to magically produce better results in Year 6 than it did in Years 1-5 is idiotic.
I mean sure, if you are a simpleton mouth breather

[0% of me believes Dubas was gone prior to his presser, or used his family situation as leverage, FTR. I stilll fully believe he thought he was staying at that point. ]
He didn't lie. In the end his move to Pittsburgh wasn't lateral, it was a promotion. He only said he'd be GM in Toronto or drop out for a year. He hadn't banked on being offered Director of Hockey Ops.

Im thrilled you finish every single season feeling like you’re a piece of shit.

While I’m over here, enjoying my team.

Auston Matthews is 25….your nightmare isn’t close to being over.

Just thinking a bit about breaking up the core 4. If you look at the history of this market we've been watching this terrible version of a movie on replay over and over again. "you can't win with...".

For 50 years good players have been run our of town because "they can't win" only to go on and win. Almost immediately. "Kadri hurts you in the playoffs, you can't win with him..." Cup. "You can't win with Kessel." Cup. "Kaberle is too soft, you can't win with him" Cup. Murphy. Cups. Damphousse. Cup. McDonald. Cup.

Toronto's experience with that evaluation is pure shit. Its a completely subjective, worthless criteria to evaluate players. The media and fans saying "you should trade player x, you can't win with them" makes me pretty confident that we should not trade player X and we can win with them.

Everyone points to the Tkachuk trade, but the reality is in this situation we would be the team trading the Tkachuk.

its not to say that you can't trade those players and make your team better. And if you can do that great. But its much easier to trade those players and make the other team significantly better, your team significantly worse, and watch them win a cup on TV somewhere else.

As I said

Awesome regular season and shitty playoffs >>> shitty regular season and shitty playoffs.
Of course a mediocre regular season but a great playoff run trumps those previous two.

Also, you’re a shitty playoff performer (Matthew tkachuk) until you’re not (Matthew tkachuk)

Also, Tkachuk had no goals against the Leafs. But guys like Verhaghe, Cousins scoring allowed him to have his big, defining moments in round 3.

…plus, if Bob didn’t do the heavy lifting for them none of us would be mentioning Tkachuk or any Florida players right now.

recency bias + playing the results.
