The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

For sure, and the upside that Robertson has should mean that his leash should be way longer than the others. And I think for the most part they were genuinely giving him an opportunity with a longer leash than I could ever ask for until he got hurt. I agree, though. Do it again next year. He doesn't have to play every game if he's as bad as he was.. But get him enough reps to help him figure out how to play in the NHL. If he can't do it, so be it, but you're not gonna find out unless you give him enough reps.

They can afford a liability in the short term though. I agree don’t pencil him in the top 6, but he should be one of the guys you are planning on giving a shot to. No need to load up on ZARs and NAKsin the offseason. Can always get that cheap at the deadline if needed.

I mean sure you can just say stuff.

and then wonder why the team is top 5 every year, and better than Lou's teams with all those "value" contracts.
After every failed season you get more and more delusional while looking for answers to why the Leafs didn't win a cup. You need to lighten up and realize hockey is just a sport that's supposed to entertain us and the answers to why this team hasn't won the cup or advanced deep isn't going to be found by stat mining.

Anyway we'll see how your hero transforms the Pens into a top team and cup contender in one summer like you and your fellow KD fan members believe Dubas did his first off season here.

Lets' take the top 32 scoring centremen, Tavares is:

#15 in goals
#18 in points
#4 in power-play points
#2 in FO% (726/1245)

My calculated value based on league wide point value: $9,371,431

So overpaid by: $1,628,569 (by my valuation)
what do you think his numbers would look like if he wasn't getting carried by Marner and our top end pp?

Zeke needed to hear this. But I would have waited till Monday. Not nice to ruin his weekend.

Do we think Kerfoot in a vacuum is a $3.5m value player, but just not one we want/need on our team?

Underlying all this, obviously Dubas and the boys felt that if you have our core 4, and can dominate the high events stretches with them….and then lower the total events when they are off ice, on balance that’s a winning formula? (Guessing he also felt this is where some cap value was?)

That a fair assumption broadly, of the FI take on Kyle’s m.o.?

I dont think kerf gets 3.5 as UFA

I don't know dude, pretty cool that we have both and that their games compliment each other.

Top end PP is awesome too.

This is a personal thought and only a thought, but the focus on low event hockey is a main driver to why we've been so "unlucky" in the playoffs.

Every event becomes more important when your focus is on limiting events. Fewer events = letting lady luck determine your fate to a higher and higher degree. Every bounce, tip, post and save becomes more and more important.

When you're the higher skill team you should be looking to increase the total amount of events (within a controlled structure) and not limiting
them.

I also think that our roster makeup leaves us at a "luck deficiency". Aside from Matthews, Nylander, and Tavares we don't have forwards who go to the net with any sort of regularity looking to create potential events. That's where "luck" happens in the playoffs, at the net front. I think publicly tracked xG doesn't address that properly because the shot quality data just isn't good enough (as basically every professional has tried to tell us over the last 5 years).
certainly a very interesting thought here. i would love to hear Dubas' thoughts on the concept because it does seem quite possible that this is what they were going for.

was gonna ask this the other day ... would you give any consideration to:

(a) Nylander for Lindholm

or

(b) Marner for Lindholm and Rasmus Andersson
Um, which team are we in those scenarios?

Because why would the Leafs do those?

The first one I don't understand at all. You want the older, worse player?

The second one isn't even a quarter for two dimes and a nickel. You're probably missing a dime in that exchange.

We'll never win one of these core 4 trades.

I don’t really go by what Don Cherry says, but I think he may have had a good point about believing in and staying the course with this core and keeping this group like a family.

@zeke maybe walk me through what Relative is demonstrating here for us….

Last 3 Years, 5v5 venue, score adjusted, Relative.

xGF% = -3.72% (13th lowest)
HDGF% = -3.87 (31st lowest) (Naz same, Willy 21st lowest)
SCF% = -3.48 (12th lowest)
GF% = -1.98 (34th lowest)….(JT, Naz, Nylander, all lower)

…I’m for sure wrong, but isn’t Rel just gonna thump them for not playing with Auston or Mitch?

Wait who needs to lighten up?
