The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I'm okay with Laff having another year to start out and see what happens. As 12th/13th, I'm not sweating over his existence.

We just need to add the right guys above him.

at least he's cheap and im convinced Davidson needed to include him in the McCabe deal to get the first he wanted, and had no real interest in exploring a " what can i get for Sam Lafferty on his own" situation

He was getting that first with or without him. I'm guessing Dubie wanted him to replace Engvall or something, I really can't figure out what the fuck that guy was thinking in the end.

And one more thing.. Him being a close to market value player is a strike AGAINST Dubas if anything. If the excuse was they needed to spend assets to dump his contract then Kyle would have some excuse for his never ending love affair with the most mediocre bland, vanilla player ever. But I don't think the contract was shit enough for that.. They could have off-loaded him for a mid-round pick and replaced him in-house, signed a UFA or traded assets for another guy.

If you have this cap structure and there's ONE depth piece up front that you spend any money on, it mother fucking CANNOT be Alex Kerfoot. This was obvious to everyone but Dubas long ago.

His contract definitely wasn’t “too shit” for that. This past season, Kerf was a $3.5M cap hit who was owed only $750K in cash after the Leafs paid out his signing bonus on July 1st.

So I have a hard time believing that Dubas couldn’t have not only off-loaded his entire cap hit with ease, but likely could’ve gotten value back as well.

He just didn’t want to though, since he was in love with the player.

This Engvall thing where people are treating him like some gadget they did not care about and stashed in the attic then got all mad that their partner threw out is getting tiresome.

There's no chance Montana isn't Kyle Dubas himself. Then again, I'm not even sure Dubas himself defends Dubas as much as Montana has. This is some next level shit.

There’s always a bull in any market. You started shorting Dubas on the last day of the trade deadline. One of your better moves!

I'd much, much, much rather have Acciari for $1.whatver than Lafferty.
For sure.

But even with Acciari's gumption and grit, the guy did not look like he had very much offense in him. The black hole in the bottom six can't be repeated. And looking at his track record, the guy seems to be good only for ZAR level production that we got this year. I dunno, very lukewarm about him. Especially if his deal is 3-4 years.

Also, I do expect Treliving to want to "make his mark" on the team by completely reshaping the bottom lines.

He's not just going to bring back all the Dubie retreads. He'll have his own desire to do things differently, so I'm expecting all those UFA to walk frankly, other than ROR if he wants to stay and can be persuaded to sign a silly deal, but I doubt that.

I'm very enthused to see what Treliving does down there, and really hope he sees value in guys like Holmberg and McMann where Dubie and Keefe didn't. Even better than getting a new guy is utilizing an existing guy and getting much more out of them than the previous regime. Makes the last guy look pretty stupid to have not made use of something good that he already had at his disposal.
