Yeah, I saw how he outscored him. Maybe Knies could leave some pucks on the goal line for Tavares next season.

I would not bring back Bunting at the number i think it takes.

ROR does ( as zeke and his calculator shows) enough to replace John, certainly more economically.

Im sure the rest of the money you have left ( or in the Tavares trade) you can get a PP beast to help

Both of them weren’t enough to get us by. Let’s try with one of them now! The worse one!
 
I mean, ignoring which of the two I think is actually better, ROR @ $6 mill >>> JT @ $11 mill.

And I wouldn't even want to spend $6 mill on ROR annually either. but the gap between the two of them is not worth $5 mill (or close to it)
 
The last 4 years (i.e. post-ROR cup run), at Even Strength, with Tavares playing in a sheltered scoring role for one of the best offenses in hockey, and ROR playing shut down matchup minutes for a mediocre offensive team:

Regular Season + Playoffs

Tavares (33): 302gms, 20gl/49pt pace
O'Reilly (32): 294gms, 17gl/47pt pace

If you like a 3C making $6m, sure.
 
I'd like to see Bunting resigned, but dependant on demands I'd also consider a guy like Bertuzzi.

Would also like to see a 3C that can drive a line and maybe help feed a couple 20ish goal scorers on the third line.

Save any other changes for the trade deadline (Shutdown D, more scoring wingers etc..)
 
Honestly this crop of FA is really bad

I would personally take advantage of the GM who wants to move out a salary in order to afford some of this fancy crop of meh FA.

Brock Boesser and his 6M might come with an asset in a trade and im not sold he's not the same as some of these W that are going to get the bag
 
I wonder if we could talk to the Jets to gage PLD's interest in signing.

I think he'd be a strong 2C candidate. Don't have much to trade, but maybe Montreal just thinks to wait... but if an extension could be signed...I'd like that option.

He's got a bit of a nasty side to him that we need.
 
Dubois is bound to be heavily overpaid i think. Big strong C who can score...but actually doesn't score a ton and is probably not so good defensively.
 
Dubois brings something we don’t have in terms of physicality , and also kinda makes out top 6 huge with Matthews and Knies.

depends on what he wants. $8 mill ish is reasonable for a second line center. But if he thinks he’s a first line center it doesn’t work.

Eh, Jordan Staal is a line mover and probably won't cost much more than that.

He'll likely stay in Carolina, but the overall point still stands. You can find a 3rd liner that can anchor a good line in that price range. You just can't fall in love with production derived from a guy who played next to better players than him.

Always beware of paying for production that came as the 3rd best forward on his line or 4th-5th best guy on a top PP unit.
