The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Eh, Jordan Staal is a line mover and probably won't cost much more than that.

He'll likely stay in Carolina, but the overall point still stands. You can find a 3rd liner that can anchor a good line in that price range. You just can't fall in love with production derived from a guy who played next to better players than him.

Always beware of paying for production that came as the 3rd best forward on his line or 4th-5th best guy on a top PP unit.

So true.

And yet, fuck jordan staal.

picking a somewhat legacy guy to prove your point seems unfair.

Well if the goal was to give Auston someone he’s very familiar with in the front office in the wake of Dubas & Spezza’s departures, you can’t really argue with this one.

I think the goal of the assistant to the regional manager is to give the GM someone they are comfortable with.

Dubas was comfy with the dork, Tre is comfy with another ogre.

He strikes me as a dude thats simply going to retire a Cane and wont chase the payday considering his status there. I dont think the general rules of FA economics apply to him.

If Carolina wasn't bringing him back, he would cost in the 4-4.5 range on a 2-3 yr deal.

Similar cost that early to mid 30's 3C's have been going for over the last bunch of seasons, a bit on the higher side of it actually because Jordan Staal.

40-50 point versions of those guys in their late 20's (Gourde, Danault, Coyle, etc, etc) have been going in the low 5's

Jordan Staal is a UFA? Oh ya that’s a good fit.

how are guys like Bunting and Bertuzzi getting talked about but not Staal, Max PAC and Severson. There are actually some pretty good UFAs.

i think Severson is going to get the bag.

You can make the case he's the top FA period

Max Pac feels like a fun fit, but man, the injuries should scare off anyone with no wiggle room

have you seen the C available in FA?

he gets 5-5.5 in his sleep.

mostly because Jordan Staal is 35 and Max Pac is deceased.

while NJD's success this year came with Severson demoted down to bottom pair duty.

I say let's go full asshole... worked for Florida.

Actually, I totally forgot that Treliving was an assistant GM for the Coyotes from 2007-2014.

So yeah, even aside from the fellow ogre theory, this is a guy Treliving would be very personally familiar with as well.

Bertuzzi is an interesting one because he's gritty and has shown ppg upside.

But both the eye test and the metrics agree he's been mostly terrible defensively, and somewhat PP dependant offensively.

also, he's a prick.

dubois is an asshole, but not the kind that wins you hockey games.

also, i deeply suspect a soft bitch that cant handle the living conditions of columbus and winnipeg is not equip to handle the pressure of playing in a city like toronto or montreal.
