The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Matthews will sign a short deal because he's anticipating the cap going up substantially in another couple years and doesn't want to miss the train.

The silver lining in that scenario is that it would indicate he’s not worried about his wrist being too much of a problem going forward

I saw some video of hockey clowns from NHL network or TSN, can't remember, where they were saying they expect Matty to sign 3 years or 5 years, but no more than that.

We couldn't possibly be entertaining another short deal, could we?
The 3 years thing is pretty damn risky and stupid.

Dubie let him be a UFA after this one expires, so not much we can do if he flat out refuses to go longer.

Is he the only fucking star player who signed a shorter than max deal, except Tkachuk, who wasn't in his league at the time? I'm blanking on who else did a bridge-ish one like this.

I’m pretty sure he’s the only star of his generation who by his own choice took less than the max term.

Generally the players like Tkachuk that ended up on bridge deals were forced into them by their teams. In Tkachuk’s case, Treliving signed so many shitty depth players to bloated contracts that he made up the cap space by forcing Tkachuk to take less term & salary.

It's too bad Matty didn't sign for 8 years and McDavid for 5 years instead.

And in any timeline other than this messed up one we live in, that should've happened given the cities/teams they play in/for.
