The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I'm not crapping on the Doan thing, but holy shit do I ever laugh when I hear people talk about his great career and leadership qualities.
This guy loved his long offseasons and hanging on his ranch and never winning. Completely wasted his career. And I don't really think it's a "Loyalty" quality. He was just ok with not winning at all.

Spezz was a perennial loser too. The winners just get to be president right away (Francis, Shanny, Sakic, Yzerman, Blake). They don't have to be assistant to the regional manager.

Is it wasted if he's happy though? Wasted by who's standards?

presto luck always plays a huge part. Panthers are 7-0 in OT. Vegas has the highest PDO ever recorded.

Hard to beat 4 good teams without it. Only reason the Leafs beat Tampa this year was luck.

But full props to Demers for having the balls to call illegal stick that late in a finals game. I still have visions of the curve measurement.

Sometimes you need the right coach at the right time too.

Only reason Ovechkin even won a cup was a tremendous amount of presto luck. They were a post away from being down 3-0 in the first round. The narrative would have shifted dramatically.

Then they got a pretty easy path the rest of the way.

In a big market it's viewed as a wasted career.
Some of his comments/actions near the end of his career tell me he had regrets.
Ok. Life gets in the way man. These guys are on planes all the time. Guys that young figure they'll get to it or wait for this nugget, actually believe in themselves that they will win one. Old story mate.

If he was happy along the ride but found the destination underwhelming well, that's just life isn't it?

True story.

Kirk Muller told Wendel Clark that once LA won game 7 against the Leafs, the habs started celebrating.
Because they knew that they were going to win the cup.
Gretz and officials fucked the Leafs. I'm positive they needed the kings in the finals. It was the beginning of sunbelt growth
