The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Nobody suggested buying out Tavares.

Trading him because he's still good enough to possibly work out an interesting deal, especially with him being owed not very much in actual money though, is smart to consider.

OEL is unplayable. There is no conceivable way of trading away his caphit without taking as much dead cap in return.
I never said anything about buying out Tavares that you need to distinguish anything here.

OEL is not unplayable. He's just really, really not worth his current caphit. Buying him out was fucking foolish though.

Tavares is still a great player, even if not giving $11M of value. Moving heaven and earth to remove him so you can afford some better fourth liner is also fucking foolish.

Again - just because he's not providing full value doesn't necessarily mean ditching the player makes sense. And there are degrees of foolishness, since nobody can top Vancouver's idiocy today. But we can try to get close to it by dumping a star player, paying assets to get a replacement (who doesn't exist), to free up a small amount of cap for two years, and then having a shinier fourth liner for our troubles.

What choice did Vancouver have?
They were super desperate for cap space and had to go the ugly route

Tldr: lof is emotionally invested in some players, good or bad, and it impacts his opinions or at least what he states are his opinions. The double standards are starting to get him in trouble, folks. We're seeing cracks.
Are you fucking kidding me with this?

It's ridiculous to try to squeeze ourselves out of two remaining years to a very productive player for no fucking material benefit.

Sorry if you think that's an emotion-driven conclusion. Jesus.

Wait what who argued this. I'm simply pointing out that you love Tavares more than I love my child. Not a controversial take, folks.

To be fair, you've allowed emotions to cause ridiculous takes on other players too

Francois Beauchimen remembers.

I would never opt for the buyout. I'd make trades, even uncomfortable ones where I'd lose a good player for picks/prospects, before having a ghost take up cap space for years on end.

JT makes $11m a year, is a good looking dude and NEVER raises his voice or talks down at you. Face it. He’s a catch and you’re jelly.
