The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

a cap that was projected to be higher in year 1 of his deal than it is now in year 5, meaning he knows he got a way higher percentage than they thought he would on his last contract
not only is it unlikely that Matthews "knows" this, it's even more unlikely that he cares much about it. his agent knows this but ain't talking.

what exactly are you proposing as a contract? because it's unlikely he signs a superfriendz discount contract for 8 years. maybe 5...

I think zeke's proposal was 500k under yours over 8 years. So nothing crazy.

Weird that somebody wouldnt care about how their salary is calculated. But sure, maybe just his agent knows. Doesnt matter either way.

As for proposed contracts i mean i posted a bunch of calculations on this thread over the last day or two. They're all there. They start with him getting, at minimum, the highest caphit and biggest contract in league history.

so 12.5 x 8 then? we shall see, but i would be surprised if it's even 13x8.

nobody knows what the cap will be in the 2nd half of that contract, but from what we know it's likely to go up A LOT.

13 or 13.5 would be enough to get me happy. I agree, 12.5 is a little aggressive but an extra 500k-1m isn't enough to get me too angry tbh.

There's no real argument for Matthews to get significantly more than MacKinnon, other than he can.

And i made calculations earlier in the thread based on the cap going up hugely (5%) in every year of his 8yrs

Which, in the end, will be the only argument that matters.

It's pretty impactful in that Marner will likely be the tougher negotiation based on the last one and his perception of himself vs Matthews. They probably get something close to identical. So it may seem like 1-2m isn't a lot but you may be doubling up on that when Marner signs. It's a lot of money and worth hoping for some savings here.

Frustrating thing is that players debt is paid off by what early November, yet the cap can't go up for all net season.
If players would accept an escrow higher than the previously agreed to 6% for 23-24, the cap would be moved more than $1 million.

and remember, guys like MacKinnon and Pastrnak made literally half as much as Matthews did on their current deals. And they still chose to not gouge their teams this round again.
